In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about what happened at the Battle of Buxar and what were the reasons that led to it. After the battle of Plassey and Panipat, The Nawab of Bengal Mir Qasim started the revolt against British as he didn’t wanted to be held as their puppet like his father of law Mir Jafar. Mir Qasim joined hands with Mughal emperor Shah Alam-2 and Nawab of Awadh Shuja-Ud-Daula. The three joined armies faced British army led by Hector Munro in the field of Buxar. A faction of Naga Sadhu also joined and fought ferociously against the British. Buxar is a town on the bank of the river Ganga about 130 km west of Patna. The British won the battle and it became a decisive defeat for the future of India.

Battle of buxar was one of the greatest example of Indian secularism, it was one of the first attempt of overthrowing foreign rule, this war was also shown in Saif Ali Khan movie "Lal Kaptaan"

One correction: flank is the side of a line. Each line has a left and right flank. Aapne jo bola, that is phalanx, jo ki greek shield walls ko kehte hain, which wasn't used in India during british conquests. Armed front units pin the enemy front and then try to attack the unprotected flanks. This is called a flanking maneuver.

ANUP GOSAIN was the GENERAL of Sujah Ud Dwalah, he had 5000 deadly cavalry Sadhu warriors under his direct command who faught also in the battle of Panipat against the Marhattas. This army was called "Bairagis" they were deadly as they were extremely well trained in archery and in musket firing. In west bengal too these Bairagis fought against the Marhatta forces led by Bhosale and Bhasker Pandit..... they used to cut the heads of enemy and take cropse to their "Derah" to eat human flesh.Their battle cry was : Bhole ki fauj ..karegi mauj , Jai Mahakaal, and Jai Chamundey

This Sadhus also joined Abdali under the leadership of Nawab Shuja against Marathas at third war of Panipat.... This Nawabs were not Mughal, they were separated warlords... So Sadhus didn't help Mughal emperor... This Army of Sadhus was mostly language and territory based and mainly based on cash payments..not part of any state army...they were mercenaries...just like pindaries

Battle Of Buxar gave Diwani(right to collect revenue) rights to British, from Bihar, Bengal and Odisha(Orissa). This actually started the the whole cycle of Zamindari system under British which even to this day is the cause of rigid caste system causing backwardness(one of many), especially of Bihar. The Lallantop is one of the few who present history in such an interesting manner. The content, narration and simplicity of presentation is something which makes this channel stand apart.
