Sorry for the late answer. I just read your comment. Your parrot was becoming territorial. You could've tried distancing it from the cage and tried offering it to step up in a totally new place. Secondly, use a stick for the first few times at the start of every training session and treat it to whatever treat is its favourite. The stick will help in many ways.. especially with biting. If your parrot learns that you stop touching it if it even brings its beak near you, it'll learn to bite so that you give up and eventually leave it be. Another benefit is the grip it can provide to your parrot as the claw is naturally designed to latch on a cylindrical, rough surfaced stick or rod very similar to a tree branch. Always try to keep your parrot at a flat surface when you try to train it to perch on your hand as birds in general avoid flat floor like surfaces, even more if they're slippery like a glass top table or a marble or granite top counter. Then take your own posture into account and never lean or tower over your parrot. It triggers a fight or flight response in birds and if you're towering over your parrot and extend your hand, it'll most definitely bite you out of fear. Keep your parrot on a surface which is high enough to level with your chest or above the waist at the very least, any higher for instance shoulder height will make it very difficult for you both and your parrot will get spooked every attempt you make as it won't be able to see your arm rising and when it does, it'll be from the side which again would make your bird feel a bit threatened as if it's being cornered. Try different techniques. The easiest way should be to get the parrot to step up from any flat surface or the stick where it would find it more comfortable to perch on your hand. You can always gently sway or rock the stick sideways or lift or lower it in a manner which would disrupt the bird's balance and then offer the backside of your hand with your fingers folded in. Get your hand close to the stick with the parrot on whilst gently shaking the stick so it would want to get off the stick and get on your hand instead. Don't show your fingers to your parrot as it most likely has developed a fear of your hand. Neither individual fingers in a pointing position or together as if you're about to grab it. Sorry that my comment has become extremely lengthy but this one very important point which you need to remember, there is no 'best' way Or shortcut to tame a parrot or to train it to do anything. Every bird has a different personality and one thing might work with one parrot and fail on another there all individuals and the only thing which works for every parrot all pets in general, even us humans and that is to always exercise patience and don't give up. It might take a few attempts over a few days or weeks, maybe even months. Everything is possible with determination, consistency and patience.
