In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Bangladesh Liberation War In 1971. By 14th December it was apparent that Pakistan is going to lose the war. On the same day Pakistan Army along with its local collaborator groups, most notably the extreme right wing Islamist militia group Al-Badr, started the the systematic execution of Bengali pro-liberation intellectuals. Intellectuals were killed throughout the duration of war but 14 December is especially heinous as the act was done in order to hurt the future of a new nation. The largest number of executions took place on 25 March and 14 December 1971, as it became apparent that Bangladesh could become independent. 14 December is commemorated in Bangladesh as Martyred Intellectuals Day. India won the war only once in its history in 1971 and that was made possible by the fact that 80 million freedom-loving Bangladeshis took up arms against Pakistan. After losing to China in 1962 and losing ground, India reclaimed Pakistan-occupied territory in the Kargil war in 1999 but had no victors. I said no, they have ruled India with a population of billions with just a few lakhs of manpower.

Lallantop... “paint the red over green land of East Pakistan” this line was written by Rao Farman in his diary because it was said in a political rally by a politician before 25 march crackdown.... Farman was one of tge peacenik (along with Asmiral Ahsan, Lt Gen Yakub and Gen Raja) who tried hard to get a political solution.

For point 6, from Indian point, we don't put war related stories in school syllabus after 1947, primarily not to grandiose or fanticize human killing for political / religion or ideological reasons. Tats the alert decision our forefathers had taken. But if you want to learn about them , there will be sea of books in public domain. I think that's a great thing, as it not forces young minds with predujice.

Their was a solution provided by sorawardi and sarat basu to add the whole bengal and create a yuktapradesh as 3rd partition. Shyama prasad is extremely opposed this idea, but most of bengali supported it because it was deliberately done to reunite with India after independence. Jinnah and shyama prasad met Radcliffe to oppose this idea and finally they succeeded

It was mainly the idea of Pakistan, or the 'two-nation theory' that committed 'Harakiri' or suicide, in the Operation Searchlight - the draconic suppression conducted by Pakistan Army in Bangladesh. Pakistan hasn't learned the lesson and continues doing the same with its own people, not just in Balochistan, but also in other parts of Pakistan. Many known journalists like Saleem Shahzad, who were vocal against Pakistan Army and establishment, were abducted/ kidnapped and later their dead bodies were found.

It was a war between bengali mukti bahini and Pak Army. Indian army helped mukti. India cant take credit. The main credit goes to bd.

If it was a war between Mukti Bahini & Pakistan Army only then why did you came to India for help??? You could have done at your level also..... The thing is that when you came to know that Mukti Bahini can't do anything alone then you came to India for help & India helped with your Refugees & Mukti Bahini by giving training, weapons & logistic support. Indian Army, Navy & Air Force fought the war from 3rd December to 16th December don't forget that. Without India you were nothing & still now without India you are nothing.....
