The height of this dam is 63.56 meters i.e. 208.5 feet and its length is 1039 meters i.e. 3409 feet.
The water storage capacity of this dam is 11 t. M. C. And its name is Tanajisagar Reservoir

Khadakwasla Dam was built in 1879 to supply water to Pune city
After India's independence, the city of Pune was growing, so the city was facing water scarcity
The administration decided to build a new dam as the water in the Khadakwasla dam was falling short
The construction of Panshet Dam was started on October 10, 1957

At that time, it was estimated that if modern technology is used, the work of the dam will be completed 1 year before the initial deadline.
In the construction plan, a spillway was planned on one side to drain the flood water and on the other side, an exit gate with a door in the form of a channel tunnel was planned inside the dam.
Many of these things were planned but were not completed until June 1961. Due to the heavy rains in the dam area during the month of June, all the works had to be stopped partially, but due to the heavy rainfall, the dam was overloaded.

Except Bundagarden Bridge, all other bridges were submerged
Areas like Shaniwar Peth, Narayanapeth, Kasbapeth and Somwarpeth on the south bank of Mutha river were badly damaged.
On July 12, 1961, there was chaos in Pune, who was running around shouting 'Pani Aal..Pani Aal...', the incident itself was like that. Because there was a big crack in Panshet Dam. The Indian soldiers worked tirelessly and piled thousands of sandbags throughout the night and stopped the bursting dam till morning. If the water had come at night when the Punekar were sleeping, there would have been a huge loss of life in Pune. But in the end what happened was that Panshet dam finally burst in the early morning and the next small Khadakvasla dam burst due to it. More than a thousand people were killed in this incident.
The flood situation was so dire that the then first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, also visited Pune city to review the situation and the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Yashwantrao Chavan, also visited Pune city.
Water became water in Pune, chaos ensued, he was trying to save his life. Many people were affected by this. Lives were turned upside down. The dreams of many were dissolved like lumps in that muddy water. This flood broke the backbone of a generation. On that day, the news that the Panshet dam near Pune was in danger was published on the front page. A photo of the dam was also printed in the news.
The overall tone of the news was that even though the dam was in danger, Pune residents should not panic. There is no threat to Pune city. However, the seriousness of the crisis began to be realized. The Deccan was getting flooded. Suddenly the water level started to rise. The water was very strong. Feet were not on the ground. Along with the water came huge amounts of mud and fine sand. Deccan Gymkhana Chowk was like a battlefield. Joe was in the fray to save his life.
Karve Road and Jungli Maharaj Road, the important roads along the river, had always disappeared under the water. The Deccan Gymkhana ground was filled with water.
Buildings were collapsing. Soon the water came to Goodluck Chowk. The water level was rising.
Hanuman Hill, behind Ferguson College, was teeming with hillbillies. Slowly the water rose and reached the main gate of Fergusson College. All roads and lanes connecting Jungli Maharaj Road and Fergusson College Road were flooded.

This deluge taught many lessons. The biggest lesson is not to be discouraged by adversity. Learn to deal with it. Pune learned this lesson well. So the city of Pune stood like a phoenix party. It has not only stood but progressed all around and has become a major industrial city in the world today.
