ये गाना दिलीप साहब , तलत मेहमूद से गवाने के लिए अड गए थे । जयकिशन के बहुत समझाने पे मुकेश के लिए राजी हुए । लेकिन जैसे ही मुकेश जी पहली दो लाइन गाई दिलीप कुमार की आंखे नम हो गई । गीत लिखने वाले शैलेन्द्र जी को शत शत नमन ।

Sj and mukesh both were great ..but as per my information dilip ji wanted that Rafi sahab should sing this song ..but sj were so confident about mukesh ji ..and when dilip ji heard this ..he was overwhelmed ..and he said that nothing can be better than this ..and yes this became the most heard and remarkable song of 1958 ...which mukesh sung after 5,-6 years due to some contract ..what a great person was mukesh ji he despite being such a great and popular singer he valued that contract ..and didn't sung any sing from 1953 to 1957;..

As per my information,this is a beautiful composition by Shankar ji of the most famous Shankar Jaikishan duo.It is composed using sitar,which Shanker ji used to play in those days.Being a diabetic,he had to give up sitar playing as it caused injury to his fingers.The hero of this film Dilip Kumar wanted this song to be sung by Talat Mehmood but SJ were firm on using Mukesh's voice ..Ultimately,a toss was made which went in favour of Mukesh,who had sung this song very beautifully. All great stories about these great people.
