Puja of Boro Devi Durga is an important event in the history of Cooch Behar, for more than 500 years people of Koch dynasty have been worshiping this Boro Devi Durga. In 1480 AD Maharaja Bishwasingha, the founder of the Koch dynasty, first introduced this worship, then in 1564 AD, King Naranarayan of Cooch Behar started worshiping the goddess formally by erecting an idol. This Puja of Cooch Behar Rajbari is the first Durga Puja in the history of Bengal. The historical temple of boro Devi Durga is located near the Cooch Behar Rajbari. Puja is performed here every year according to ancient customs. Devotees from far and wide come here to seek the blessings of Goddess Durga.
