১) ডায়মন্ড হারবার হরিণডাঙ্গা কালীপূজার ইতিহাস: ডায়মণ্ড হারবার শহরের উত্তর-পূর্ব প্রান্তে অবস্থিত হরিণডাঙার রক্ষাকালী পূজা শুধুমাত্র ডায়মণ্ড হারবার শহরেরই নয় সমগ্র দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনা জেলার সবচেয়ে বড়াে ও সবচেয়ে ঐতিহ্যশালী রক্ষাকালী পূজা | দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনা জেলার বাইরেও এই পূজার যথেষ্ঠ পরিচিতি ও সুনাম আছে। স্বর্ণালঙ্কারে ভূষিতা ঘন কৃষ্ণবর্ণা বরাভয়দাত্রী দ্বিভূজা দেবীমূর্তি অতীব জাগ্রতা বলে কথিত। তাই অত্যন্ত নিষ্ঠাভরে প্রচুর পশুবলি সহ এই পূজা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। শুধু হরিণডাঙাই নয়, সারা ডায়মণ্ড হারবার শহরের বহু মানুষ এই পুজাকে কেন্দ্র করে আনন্দে মেতে ওঠেন। দূরদূরান্ত থেকেও বহু মানুষের আগমন ঘটে এখানে।
রাসেল সাহেবের বর্ণনা থেকে জানা যায়, ১৭৩৭ সালের ৩০শে ডিসেম্বর এই ডায়মণ্ড হারবার শহরের ওপর দিয়ে এক প্রবল বন্যা আর ঝড় বয়ে যায়। ঝড়টা প্রথমে শুরু হয় বঙ্গোপসাগর থেকে। ঝড়ের গতি ছিল যেমন প্রবল তেমনই ছিল তার সঙ্গে জলের পাল্লাও। পাঁচ ঘন্টার মধ্যে নদীর জল ১৫ ইঞ্চি বেড়ে যায়। ঝড়টা সমুদ্র থেকে উঠে দূরবর্তী স্থানে প্রবাহিত হয়। এর সঙ্গে আবার ভূমিকম্পও ছিল। প্রায় ২০ হাজার জাহাজ, বােট, জেলেডিঙি, নৌকা, ইত্যাদি নষ্ট হয়ে যায় এই দূর্যোগে। বহু সংখ্যক পাখির ও গৃহপালিত জন্তুর মৃতদেহ রাস্তায় পড়ে থাকতে দেখা গিয়েছিল। দেশে এই দূর্যোগের পর মহামারী দেখা দেয়। তখন এইরকম মহামারীর হাত থেকে রক্ষা পাওয়ার জন্য আর গ্রামের মঙ্গলের জন্য রক্ষাকালীর পূজার প্রচলন হয় এখানে। সেই সময় থেকে আজও রক্ষাকালীর পূজার প্রচলন আছে (লােককথা)। এক রাত্রের এই পূজায় প্রচুর পশুবলি হয়। আর সারারাত চলে বিভিন্ন শব্দবাজির খেলা। একদিনের এই পূজার আনন্দে মেতে ওঠে সারা গ্রাম। এই পূজার মতাে এত মানুষের সমাগম আর অন্য কোনও আশেপাশের গ্রামে হয় না।

So this puja is performed with great devotion and lots of animal sacrifices.

According to Mr. Russell, on December 30, 1737, a great flood and storm swept over the city of Diamond Harbor. The storm first started from the Bay of Bengal. The speed of the storm was as strong as the level of the water. Within five hours the river water rose 15 inches. The storm rises from the sea and flows into distant places.
There was also an earthquake. About 20,000 ships, boats, fishing boats, boats, etc. were destroyed in this disaster. The bodies of many birds and domestic animals were found lying on the road. The country was hit by an epidemic after this disaster. At that time Rakshakali puja was introduced here for protection from such epidemics and for the welfare of the village.
Worship of Rakshakali is still practiced from that time (Laekkatha). Lots of animal sacrifices are done in this one night puja. And the game of different words goes on all night. The whole village rejoiced in this one-day puja. According to this puja, so many people do not gather in any other nearby village.
2) When is the annual Kali Puja of Diamond Harbor Harindanga?
Every year the annual Kali Puja is performed on Saturday or Tuesday on the day of Buddha Purnima, one day before or one day after Buddha Purnima. A total of three days fair is held from the day before the puja to the day after the puja.
