BISHNUPUR, BANKURA is the famous tourist destination of West Bengal . Once it was the capital of Malla dynasty . King Jagatmalla established a temple of Mrinmayee on 997 AD . After that jagatmalla started the Mrinmayee puja ( DURGA PUJA ) on that year . In this point of view the Mrinmayee puja is the one of the oldest DURGAPUJA OF WEST BENGAL . From the ancient time this puja is being strat 15 days before from others . Since ancient times, many different rituals are associated with this puja . There is a rumor that once upon a time, the custom of offering human sacrifice was also in use in this puja . Although a few hundred years ago, that custom was stopped by the royal family . But today according to the ancient tradition, cannons are fired in this puja and the every special moments of puja is announced by it . With the passage of time, the splendor of this puja has decreased, but the emotions of the people of Mallabhum are still connected with this puja.
Numerous tourists visit Bishnupur throughout the year. If someone comes during the puja, you can also participate and enjoy in this ancient puja .
