Printing on dark cotton T-shirts using sublimation print with printable vinyl is not a common method, as sublimation printing typically requires polyester-based materials. Sublimation printing works by transferring dye into the fabric, which bonds specifically with polyester fibers. However, there is a method you can try using printable heat transfer vinyl (HTV) that is compatible with cotton fabrics. Here's a general guide:
Choose Printable Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV): Select a printable HTV that is specifically designed for use with cotton fabrics. Ensure that the HTV is suitable for dark-colored garments.
Design Creation: Design your artwork or graphic using graphic design software. Ensure that the design is suitable for the size of your T-shirt and that it's compatible with the printing method you're using.
Printing: Print your design onto the printable HTV according to the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure to mirror your design horizontally before printing if it contains text or any elements that should face a specific direction once applied.
Cutting: Once the design is printed, load the printable HTV onto a cutting machine (if required) and cut around the design, leaving a small border to ensure proper adhesion to the fabric.
Weeding: Remove the excess material (the parts of the vinyl that you don't want to transfer onto the T-shirt) carefully using a weeding tool. Take your time to ensure accuracy.
Preparation of T-shirt: Preheat your heat press according to the recommended temperature settings for the printable HTV.
Positioning: Place the dark cotton T-shirt onto the heat press and pre-press it for a few seconds to remove any moisture and wrinkles.
Application: Position the weeded printable HTV design onto the T-shirt, ensuring it's centered and aligned correctly.
Heat Pressing: Cover the design with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper to protect it from direct heat. Apply heat and pressure using the heat press, following the manufacturer's recommended settings for the printable HTV.
Cooling and Peeling: Once the pressing process is complete, allow the T-shirt to cool down for a few seconds. Carefully peel off the transfer paper or plastic carrier sheet from the printable HTV, leaving the design adhered to the fabric.
Finalization: After removing the carrier sheet, if required, repress the design for a few seconds to ensure proper adhesion.
Completion: Your dark cotton T-shirt with sublimation-like print using printable vinyl is now ready.
Remember to always follow the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer of the printable HTV you are using, as the process may vary slightly depending on the brand and type of material. Additionally, perform a test on a scrap piece of fabric before applying the design to your final garment to ensure compatibility and desired results.
