Probarona Purnima, one of the major Buddhist religious festivals, is knocking on the door.
Although there is no controversy over the celebration of the Probarona festival this year, there is a controversy over whether or not to fly lanterns around the day. The ongoing communal anarchy (especially in the hill districts) by some bigoted and opportunistic people capitalizing on the ongoing political change in the country has given birth to various doubts and apprehensions among the Buddhist masses. While many are saying to refrain from flying lanterns this year, some are giving their opinion in favor of flying lanterns. The socio-religious protection of Buddhists is also gaining importance around the Probarona and Kathin Cheebar Daan festivals. What is our protection? Abstaining from the event or celebrating the event?
The 177th episode of Charu Adda is dedicated to discussing the pros and cons of lantern flying, the pros and cons of cooperation, and the merits and demerits of the ceremony.
