কারওয়ান বাজার। একের মধ্যে সব। ক্ষুধা নিবারণের জন্য রাজধানী বাসীর যা কিছু দরকার হয় তার অধিকাংশ পন্যের যোগান দেয় এই বাজার। দিনে এই বাজারে খুচরা পন্য বিক্রি হলেও পাইকারী হাট বসে রাতে। দেশের বিভিন্ন প্রান্ত থেকে ট্রাক বোঝাই করে কাঁচাবাজার, মাছ, ফল থেকে শুরু করে নিত্য প্রয়োজনীয় সব কিছুই আসে এই বাজারে।
উল্টো নিয়মের জীবন, রাতের কারওয়ান বাজার। দিনের আলো রাতের আধারে বিলীন হওয়ার পর ধীরে ধীরে বাড়তে থাকে কর্মব্যস্ততা।
পঞ্চাশোর্ধ্ব সবজি বিক্রেতা্ রহিম সিকদার জীবনের ৩০ টি বছর পার করেছেন রাতের কারওয়ান বাজারে। স্বজনের প্রিয় মুখগুলো ফিকে হয়ে যায় কাজের ব্যবস্ততায়। শুধু আয় ব্যায়ের হিসেব মেলাতেই দিন কাটে তার।
এমন হাজারো গল্পে রাতের কারওয়ান বাজার জেগে ওঠে রাজধানীবাসীর উদর পূর্তির সংকল্প নিয়ে।
কৃষকের মাঠ থেকে আসা সতেজ সবজি, কারওয়ানবাজারে ঠাঁই পায় রাতের বেলায়। কিন্তু ক্রেতা নেই, তাই ভোর হবার অপেক্ষায় রহিম সিকদারের মতো ব্যবসায়ীরা। মধ্য রাতের এক পশলা বৃষ্টিতে ঘন্টাখানেকের জন্য থমকে গেলো সব।
বৃষ্টি শেষে শুরু হয় কর্মব্যস্ততা, যেন কারো বিরাম নেই এক মুহুর্ত।
আমের বাজারে চাপাইনবাবগঞ্জ ও রাজশাহীর দাপট হারিয়ে গেছে দামের প্রভাবে । তাই পাবনা, চুয়াডাঙা, দিনাজপুরের আম দিব্বি রাজশাহীর বলে চালিয়ে দিচ্ছে এখানে।
পিয়াজ ও আলুর দাম রাতে পড়তির দিকে থাকলেও, দিনের আলোয় তা উত্তাপ ছড়ায় সর্বশক্তি নিয়ে।
সামুদ্রিক মাছের পাশাপাশি ভারতীয় মাছে ভরে গেছে রাতের কারওয়ান বাজার। রুই, কাতলা, ইলিশ, চিংড়িসহ নানা ধরণের মাছ থাকলেও দামে ছাড় নেই এতটুকু।
করোনার ধকল আর ইউক্রেন-রাশিয়ার যুদ্ধের আঁচ পাইকারী বাজারে স্পষ্ট। কৃষিখাতে বাজেট বৃদ্ধি বা ভর্তুকি কমানো কারওয়ান বাজারের এই মানুষগুলোর কাছে অচেনা শব্দ। জ্বালানি তেল , সার ও বিদ্যুতের দাম কমলে দ্রব্যমূল্যের বাজার নিয়ন্ত্রনে থাকবে এতটুকুই বোঝেন তারা।

Rahim Sikder, a vegetable seller in his fifties, has spent 30 years of his life in the night caravan market. The favorite faces of the relatives become pale in the arrangement of work. He spends his days just calculating income and expenditure.
