The design is embroidered with a third thread while weaving the jamdani. As at least 300 counts of yarn are used in muslin weaving, 26-80-64 counts of yarn are usually used in jamdani weaving. Hale Jamdani is made in many places but Dhaka is considered to be the original birthplace of Jamdani. The unique method of weaving jamdani has been recognized by UNESCO as a unique intangible cultural heritage.
Jamdani sari is very well known among the Bengali women as the inheritor of the ancient fine muslin cloth. Jamdani cloth is made by designing on muslin. Jamdani usually means sari. However, nakshi orna, kurta, turban, handkerchief, curtain etc. were also made with jamdani. Sherwani designs with jamdani were in vogue in the 1800s. Jamdani cloth was also used for dyeing the regional costumes of Mughals and Nepal.

Sari prices ranging from Tk 1,200 to Tk 15,000 are available at this market. The owners of big market shopping malls of the capital also buy jamdani shaki from here. Retail buyers from the capital also come to give gifts to loved ones.
