The date palm is one of the most potential fruit crops in dry arid zone of the country with irrigation facilities. It is grown for its sweet edible fruits and is considered to be the oldest amongest the cultivated tree fruits. Middle East and other African countries are major producers of date palm. India is the Largest importer of date fruits in the world while Iran is the Largest exporter. In India, it is cultivated in 12493 hectares area in kachchh district of Gujarat with a production of 85351 tones per year. Date palm has very specific conditions required for its successful cultivation
