Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad, who was killed in an air force training plane crash in the Karnaphuli river of Chittagong, has been buried with state honor in his district Manikganj. On Friday (May 10) around 2:30 pm, after the third funeral, his burial was completed at Seota Cemetery in the city.
This information was disclosed in a press release sent by the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday (May 10) afternoon.
Earlier, an Air Force helicopter carrying the body of the deceased landed at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj around 12:15 PM. After some time, Air Force personnel brought down the coffin of his body from the helicopter. Rifat's body with his father Dr. Amanullah, wife Antara Akhtar and two children arrived by helicopter. The slain pilot was later given a guard of honour. Mother Nilufa Khanum and her relatives broke down in tears after seeing the coffin containing the son's body.
Earlier in the morning, senior officers of the Army, Navy and Air Force paid tribute to the coffin of Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad Rifat. Tributes were paid to him at BAF Base Bashar in Dhaka Cantonment. At this time, his second funeral was held there.
An Air Force training aircraft took off from Chittagong's Patenga Zahurul Haque Air Base around 10:30 am on Thursday (May 9). Shortly thereafter, the aircraft developed a mechanical fault and caught fire. Wing Commander Sohan and Squadron Leader Asim Jawad parachuted into the river and were injured before it crashed into the Karnaphuli river.
Later they were rescued and admitted to Patenga BNS Hospital. Asim Jawad died while undergoing treatment there on Thursday around 12 noon. Biman's Wing Commander Sohan Zahurul Haque is undergoing treatment at the base's medical squadron.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan have expressed grief over the death of Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad. The Prime Minister prayed for the salvation of his soul. The Air Force Chief expressed his condolences to Jawad's family.
Apart from this, Law Minister Anisul Haque sought forgiveness for his departed soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 1 Yak-130 training aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force took off from Chittagong Air Force Base Zahurul Haq at approximately 10:25 am on Thursday (May 9) as part of regular training. It met with an accident near the mouth of Karnaphuli river while returning from training. After the accident, the aeronautical wing commander said. Sohan Hasan Khan and Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad made an emergency parachute descent from the aircraft into the river.
The two pilots of the aircraft were rescued by the combined efforts of Bangladesh Air Force and Navy rescue teams and local fishermen. Among the pilots, Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad was taken to BNS Patenga for urgent treatment as his condition was critical. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.
He was a successful man in his professional life.
1. Joined Bangladesh Air Force Academy in 2010 and commissioned as Pilot Officer with 64 FCC in GD (P) Branch in December 2011.
2. Flew multiple aircraft: PT-6 (primary trainer) L-39JA (jet trainer), F-7MB, F-BG1 (fighter), operational pilot and element leader of F-7 BGI.
3. Serving in the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2018.
4. Several trips and courses abroad in China, India, Türkiye, Pakistan.
5. He was serving as a flying instructor at the Bangladesh Air Force Academy.
Martyr Asim Jawad Rifat Manikganj Saturia upazila of Dargram Union Dr. Gopalpur village. Son of Mohammad Amanullah. His mother's name is Nilufa Khanam. The deceased pilot Rifat was the father of his wife, six-year-old daughter Aiza and a son at the time of his death.
The country has again lost an able soldier.
The people of this country will never forget his extraordinary bravery and sacrifice.
