গত পাঁচ দশকে দেশে দুধ উৎপাদন বাড়াতে বড় ভুমিকা রেখেছে হোলস্টেইন ফ্রিজিয়ান জাতের গরু। সাভারের কেন্দ্রীয় গো-প্রজনন ও দুগ্ধ খামারে এখন ১১টি হোলস্টেইন ফ্রিজিয়ান গাভী রয়েছে। ২০১০ সালে যেগুলো আনা হয়েছে অস্ট্রেলিয়া থেকে। এগুলো থেকে এ পর্যন্ত হাজারের মতো সংকর জাত তৈরি করা হয়েছে। যাদের দৈনিক দুধ দেয়ার ক্ষমতা ১২ থেকে ১৪ লিটার।
