brings back memories again... back in the days when I used to travel to velankanni from trichy in the morning passenger to Nagapattinam, I used to see MG trains here and near GOC.. one lucky time I have seen a steam engine there..some people were cleaning it. can't remember the exact year..❤

I have traveled on this section from Thanjavur to Nagore in the late 1990's which was then a Metre gauge track to around the early 2000's, when it was shut down for gauge conversion. In 2004 most of the broad gauge tracks laid were washed away during the Tsunami and the infrastructure had to be re-constructed again. I traveled again in 2017 on a broad gauge laid track. Nothing fascinating to see, but the trains were able to haul more passengers and freight. Tracks were doubled and new stations constructed along the route. Signaling system were electronic, gone were the old systems. Progress had to be made, but the metre gauge had a charm of its own, like the steam locomotives of the past. Thank you for sharing this journey of yours'

Do you ever feel we should have adopted multigauge system like Bangladesh have three rails in one track, and slowly phased out according to the need . This unigauge has ruined the uniqueness .

Uniqueness is lost but it has made operations easy for the railways.
