I disagree. 99% of long term (5+ years) investors make more profits than 99% of traders. Even if you have a successful trading strategy, short term taxes will destroy your investment. Here is a calculation, assuming a stock doubles for 5 years. Long term: 2*2*2*2*2 => 32x (before tax) => 28x (after tax) Trading: 1.7*1.7*1.7*1.7*1.7 => 14x (after tax) Provided you can time the buy and sell.
