Arya is a word that is used to address a culturally-mannered, well-behaved abd dharma-adhering person.. simply it means "respected". Since there was a flourishing civilization based on vedic culture in the northern half of India, those persons were referred as "Aryans". The regions below the rivers Narmada and Mahanadi, were called "Dravida Desam". To my understanding, it also meant a non-vedic based but very cultured still based on some other Siddhanta (which we acknowledge as agamic tradition). So vedic-based is Aryan and non-vedic (Agamic) is Dravidian. Dravidian culture was never understood as inferior during the days when Sage Valmiki composed Ramayana. It was just different and non-vedic. Both Aryan and Dravidian cultures enrich the Bharatha-Varsha. Dravidian culture included all southern languages - Tamil, telungu, Malayalam, kannadam, tuluvam and related dialects.

@@007bluesky007 Aryans who were immigrants to this land were never cultured people, dominating perhaps especially through sly method like how most of the mahabharta war was won, their principle is based on end(victory) justfy the means(betryal, treachery, sly). Whereas tamilar aram is no compromise on honor, no sly methods to defeat enemy, victory or death, you live and die as a cultured person. Dravidian is a term which Robert caldwell uses to denote ancient tamil script as proto-dravidian! Which is a term alien to tamil people. It is like someone calling norther eastern people as chinki and you write their language as chinki-language. Tamil people never identified themselves as dravian, chera chola pandiyan kings have no idea what dravidian means nor hindu means it is rebranding. Most of the other so called dravidian languages are made to seperate the states via different langauges, thus these were created to destabilize strength of tamil and to have dominian over them.

Indeed each culture should definitely aim to achieve the ideals of peace, honour, nobility, compassion for fellow living beings for their particular culture was established by their forefathers. The word Dravidian is very much accepted to represent the Tamil land as it's already featured in the தமிழ்த்தாய் வாழ்த்து பாடல் as திராவிட நல் திருநாடும், we sing before every event conducted in Tamilnadu. Is this incorrect then? Also the Mahabharata was not won by sly means. Each one deserved what they got as per the deeds they did in the past and the choices they took despite knowing what Dharma was and whose side it was. That's another lengthy subject that needs detailed discussion. Even the kings we talk about like Cheras, Cholas and Pandyas have been similarly accused of what the Aryans were accused of in the places the Tamil kings conquered like Lanka and South-east Asian nations and other areas where the local tribes and their cultures were subdued and overridden with Tamil culture though it's called an 'Act of civilizing tribes' that had primitive beliefs'. This is all past. What is important is present and future which is still in our hands. What will be done? Continue to blame others and vow to restore what one thinks as right and try to enforce that OR collaborate, extend hands of friendship, do more self-introspection of where we failed and lost instead of who else can be blamed for what situation one is in. A wise Chinese saying goes like this - if one points one finger towards the other, the other fingers fold to point at oneself. Former CM Annadurai's famous finger pointing gesture reminds us of this Chinese saying.

The word Dravidian was promoted by non-tamil rulers of this land, since they can never identify as tamil but co-opt themselves with tamil pride by rebranding it as dravidian. In 1970 it has been made as தமிழ்த்தாய் வாழ்த்து by Karunanidhi who are biggest part of dravidian movements. Also if you read the full poem it also mocks aryans 'ஆரியம்போல் உலகவழக்கழிந் தொழிந்து சிதையாவுன்' too, somehow that was ommitted to not offend their feelings. If you look things deeply you can find who did it, why they did so, for what. Whether they deserve it or not, there was sly/treachery methods used to defeat enemies! Our kings, most of them lived with tamilar aram, even when they conquered other nation, they formed treaty and left it to themselves, didnt impose high taxes like how we were during Maratha invasion or Vijayanagar rulings.That is why they are still revered till now in other nations.Thats all past indeed. But like Prabhakaran says 'இயற்கை எனது நண்பன், வாழ்க்கை எனது தத்துவாசிரியன், வரலாறு எனது வழிகாட்டி.' So knowing history is important as it will guide us, teach us lessons. How we use those lessons and defend ourselves from being manipulated depends on us. The truth shall prevail.
