This is from the live concert by Sanjay Subrahmanyan held on 25th November 2005 at Vani Mahal, Chennai for the Savitri Foundation organised by Shri J Balasubramaniam, Chartered Accountant.
The composition of Tyagaraja is in the ragam Kambhoji and Adi talam. The accompanying artistes are Kumbakonam MR Gopinath, Violin, Guruvayur Dorai - Mrudangam & KV Gopalakrishnan - Khanjira.

Illustrious songster. Hi is singing from the depth of the heart. His simple dress shows that music has to be highlighted in a concert. Hi involvement in singing is not comparable. Because of some limitation of his 'saareera' he is exerting more in the performance but that is not a draw back at any level and this is overcome by his effort of giving life to the Kriti or aalapana.

all the south indian carnatic musicians dress normally this way, a simple white shirt or kurtha, several years ago, there was a musician called chembai vaidyanatha bhangavathar; he enver used to wear a shirt even when he sang in fornt of mysore maharaja; i always contrast this with hindustani musicians and not to speak of european music cocnerts where black tie is amust with a long tail coat!!!!!

Subramanian KV, i never said; but the contrary ahs to be appreciated; there is no extra show other than the talent of the artist also this makes the life of the artist simpler and easier;

True. Madurai Mani rendering is more authentic. But then Sanjay is limited in saareeram as u say.

in my age of 74 after Madurai Mani Iyar I now heard ( today 30/12/17exactly 75 th birthday) the neraval of Komboji only from Sanjay. What an accompaniment by Varadarajan in viplin, this reminds of Madurai Mani Iyar, TN Krishna & Paganini Subbudu..EXQUISITE.

Absolutely Sir. I could spend whole day by alternating between MMI's rendering and Sanjay's rendering of Kambhoji. Sanjay's form is sweet, and MMI's form is spicy.

1 thing though-vani matalaku is not a place for niraval. the meaning isn't complete without vadhiyincha kaneyundi. vani matlaku kopakinchi kante vadhiyinchakane yundi means the things said by ravana could have made sita burn him down with her eyes.

Not an expert in Carnatic music technique theory , semi avid listener though. I found MS singing the improvisations (niraval) for ‘ma janaki ‘at exactly the same phrase for over 10 minutes. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JyOWsufyrnI.html&feature=share. Both versions are equally superb and a treat for the ears.
