Swathi Muthyam is a 1986 Indian Telugu-language drama film written and directed by K. Viswanath and produced by Edida Nageswara Rao. The film stars Kamal Haasan and Raadhika, while Gollapudi Maruti Rao, J. V. Somayajulu, Nirmalamma, Sarath Babu, and Y. Vijaya play supporting roles. The soundtrack and background score were composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Swathi Muthyam depicts the plight of a young widow who is rescued by an autistic man.
Swathi Muthyam was a box office success. The film was screened at the Moscow Film Festival, the Asian and African film festival in Tashkent, the 11th International Film Festival of India in the inaugural mainstream section. The film received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu, three Nandi Awards and the Filmfare Award for Best Director - Telugu. The film was selected by India as its entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards in 1986, but was not nominated.
The film was later dubbed into Tamil as Sippikkul Muthu, released on October 2, 1986.Upon its success, the film was later remade in Hindi as Eeshwar and in Kannada as Swathi Muthu.

Director K. Viswanath (born 19 February 1930) is an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema. He is recipient of five National Film Awards, seven state Nandi Awards, ten Filmfare Awards South, and a Filmfare Award in Hindi. In 1992, he received the Andhra Pradesh state Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, and the civilian honor Padma Shri for his contribution to the field of arts. He was awarded the 2017 Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in Indian cinema, at the 64th National Film Awards.
Viswanath started his film career as an audiographer and in sixty years, he has directed fifty three feature films in a variety of genres, including films based on performing arts, visual arts, and aesthetics. He received international recognition for his works, and is known for blending parallel cinema with mainstream commercial cinema. Viswanath's filmography is known for addressing the issues of caste, colour, disability, gender discrimination, misogyny, alcoholism and socio-economic challenges through liberal arts medium. He was honored with the "Prize of the Public" at the "Besançon Film Festival of France" in the year 1981.
His directorial works which are produced by Poornodaya Movie Creations were screened to special mention at the Moscow International Film Festival; such films were dubbed into Russian language and have been theatrically released in Moscow.
In 1965, Viswanath debuted as a director with Telugu film Aatma Gowravam, which won the Nandi Award for Best Feature Film of the year. Viswanath followed it up with drama films Chelleli Kapuram, Sarada, O Seeta Katha and Jeevana Jyoti, which are women-centric films. It was in Siri Siri Muvva that the artistic touch in his craft first became visible.

Actor and Producer Sriram Edida is a prominent supporting actor in India who predominantly works for the Telugu Film Industry. He is the son of a well-known producer Edida Nageshwara Rao. Sriram went to RKM Main, T Nagar, Chennai to complete his education. Currently, he resides in Hyderabad. Sriram’s acting in Swathi Muthyam, Swara Kalpana, and Sitaara was widely appreciated by everyone. Sriram has done his work with sheer dedication and as a result, now everyone knows him well.
