Mitochondrial Eve and Chromosomal Adam are two significant figures in the study of human ancestry, representing the most recent common maternal and paternal ancestors of all living humans, respectively. Mitochondrial Eve is traced through mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which is passed down from mothers to their children, remaining largely unchanged through generations. This lineage allows scientists to trace the maternal ancestry of modern humans back to a single woman who lived in Africa around 150,000 to 200,000 years ago. On the other hand, Chromosomal Adam is identified through the Y-chromosome, which is passed from father to son. The study of the Y-chromosome reveals a common male ancestor who also lived in Africa, approximately 200,000 to 300,000 years ago. These two figures are not the first humans or a couple but rather symbolic representations of the shared genetic heritage that links all humans, offering insights into the migration, evolution, and diversity of our species.
