වියලි කළාපයේ බොහොමයක් ගෙවතු ජල හිගය හේතුවෙන් වගා නොකරයි. ජලය තිබුනද අධික කිවුල් සහිත බව නිසාම එම ජලය වගාවට භාවිතා නොකරයි. පුත්තලම දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ නවගත්තේගම කළාපයේද මේ තත්වය වැඩි වශයෙන් දක්නට ලැබේ. මේ තත්වය ගොවීන් වගාව කෙරෙහි යොමුවීම අධෛර්යමත් කරනු ලබයි. එබවින් ගොවීන් ගේ ගෙවතු වගා සැළසුම් සකස් කිරීමේදී සහ බෝග තෝරාගැනීමේදී අභියෝගයන් රාශිකට මුහුණදීමට සිදුවේ. ඒ සදහා පාංශු තත්වය වර්ධනය කිරීම සහ විවිධ වගා ක්‍රම හදුන්වාදිය යුතුවේ.
මෙම තිබ්බටු වගාව තුලින් අපට ලබාගැනීමට ඇති අත්දැකීම් රාශියකි. එනම් මෙම ගොවි මහතා විසින් බෝග වගාවේදී කාබනික පොහොර සහ පාංශු තෙත මනය පවත්වාගැනීමට කළ ක්‍රියාකාරකම් සහ ආර්ථික සැළසුම විශේෂිතය. එයට අමතරව ඔහු අන්නාසිද වගා කර ඇත. එයද නියග තත්වයන් වලදි ඔරොත්තු දෙන අඩු ජල අවශ්‍යතාවයක් සහිත බෝගයකි.
මෙහිදී පුත්තලම, කරවලගස්වැව, රඹෑව කරුවලගස්වැව. පුත්තලම ඩී.ඇම්.සමන්කුමාර සහ පී.ඇම්.නදීශා සංජීවනි වගා අත්දැකීම් වෙත අවධානය යොමු කරමු. මෙම තිබ්බටු වගාව ස්ථාපනය කරනු ලබන්නේ ඊට පෙර දොඩම් වගාව සදහා සැළසුම් කරන ලද වගා බිම තුලය. අවශ්‍ය බද්ධ දොඩම් පැල සැපයීමට නොහැකිවීම මත ඒවෙනුවෙන් වගා කිරීම සදහා සපයන ලද තිබ්බටු පැල වගා කරන ලදී. එය පැල අතර පරතරය අඩි 08කි. මෙහි ඇති විහේෂත්වය වනුයේ මනා ලෙස සකස් කරන ලද වලවල් සහ වලවල් වලට කාබනික පොහොර මෙන්ම වැවේ සැල්විනියා ගෙනවිත් දැමීමය. ඉන් පසු වගාව වර්ධනය වන විට ගස වටා වැවේන් ජපන් ජබර ගෙනවිත් දමා පසේ තෙතමනය පවත්වාගන්නලදී. මොහු වගාවට යොදනු ලබන්නේ ඔහු විසින් සකස් කරනු ලබන කොම්පොස්ට් පොහොරය.

මාස 03ක පමණ කාලයක් තුල රුපියල් ලක්ෂයකට ආසන්න මුදලක් උපයාගැනීමට හැකිව තිබේ. මේ වන විට තවත් වාර කීපයක් අස්වැන්න නෙලාගැනීමට හැකි මට්ටමේ වගාව පවතී. ඉන් අනතුරුව වගාව කප්පාදු කර නැවත සංවර්ධනය කිරිමට අපේක්ෂිතය.
මොහු තම අස්වැන්න සහ අවට ගොවීන්ගේ තිබ්බටු අස්වැන්න රාජංගනය පොලට ගෙනවිත් විකුණනයි. එසේම මෙම කාබනික තිබ්බටු අස්වැන්න සදහා තරගකාරි වැඩි මිලක් ලබාගැනීමට හැකිව තිබේ. තිබ්බටු ගෙඩියේ පැහැය .මෘදු මොලොක් බව එයට හේතුව බව ඔහු පවසයි. කිලෝවක් රු.150ක් පමණ තොග මිලකට අලෙවිකරනු ලබයි.
අද වන විට ඔහු වගාවට අමතරව වෙළදමේ නිරතවන ගොවි මහත්මයෙකි. සති දෙකකට වරක් වෙලද පළ වෙත අස්වැන්න අලෙවි කරන ඔහු වරකට රුපියල් 15000.00ක ආදායමක් උපයනු ලබයි. මාසික ආදායම රුපියල් 30000.00ක් පමණ වේ.
The commercial vegetable “Tibbatu” cultivation
Most home gardens in the dry zone are not cultivated due to lack of water. Although there is water, it is not used for cultivation due to its high salinity condition. This situation is more prevalent in the Nawagattegama and Karwalagasweva zones of the Puttalam district. This situation discourages farmers attending to cultivation. Therefore, farmers face many challenges in preparing their home garden planning and crop selection. For this, soil conditions should be improved and various cultivation methods should be introduced.
We have a lot of experience to gain from this “Tibbatu” (Wild Eggplant) cultivation. That is, the activities and economic plan of this farmer to maintain the organic manure and soil moisture in the cultivation of the crop are special. In addition, he grows pineapple. It is also a drought tolerant crop with low water requirement. They organized the home garden with selected suitable crops.
Let us focus on the cultivation experience of M. Samankumara and P.M. Nadeesha Sanjeewani. They are living in the Rambewa, Karuwalagaswewa, Putatlam. This “Tibbatu” cultivation started on the land previously planned for orange cultivation. They prepared their land for orange fruit farming but Due to the inability to found the required grafted orange seedlings, the Tibbatu seedlings provided for cultivation were planted accordingly. It is 08 feet apart between plants.
The specialty here is applying the organic manure as well as Salvinia (Saluin Molesta) into the well-prepared pits. Then, as the plant grows, “Japan Jabara” ( Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms/Water Hyacinth) plants are applied the around the tree for maintaing the soil moisture. He collects the “Japan Jabara” form the tank in village.He uses compost manure prepared by him and it has been used the Poultry farm waste and salvinea /” Japan Jabara”.
There are about 150 “Tibbatu” trees cultivated in the field. In terms of land area, it is 3/8 acre which is a little less than half an acre. It has been possible to earn nearly one hundred thousand rupees in a period of about 03 months. At present there is a level of cultivation that can be harvested several more times. Thereafter the cultivation is expected to be pruned and redeveloped.
He brings his harvest and the Tibbatu harvest of the surrounding farmers to the Rajanganaya market and sells it. It is also possible to get a more competitive price for this organic tibbatu harvest. He says that it's because of the softness of the fruit. It is sold at a wholesale price of around Rs. 150 per kilo. Today he is a farmer engaged in trade in addition to cultivation. He sells the harvest to the market every two weeks and earns Rs. 15000.00 at a time. Monthly income is around Rs. 30000.00.
Now he is a model farmer.
