Acute tonsillitis is starts as viral infection. Secondary bacterial infection with streptococcus bacteria causes severe pain and yellow spots on the surface. Penicillin therapy for 10 day and warm gargles with pain killers help to alleviate pain.
Surgery is indicated if there is recurrent infection affecting school attendance.
