The way how you talk is like an expert in agriculture…I mean the words you use…were you an instructor or a teacher/lecturer in agriculture back in Sri Lanka? By the way your videos are very informative…I am from Melbourne and I try to follow your instructions when I grow things and also I made “kale kola kenda” today and it was so yum…Thanks for the tips in a previous video and Keep up the good work!!
Thank you very much for your kind words. Appreciate it. 🙏 Yes, I worked as an agriculture instructor when I was in Sri Lanka. I'm doing these videos as an attempt to share the knowledge I gathered all along. I'm so happy to hear you tried kale kola kenda and liked it. Happy gardening to you. Keep it up!
Thank you very much for this. So inspiring. First time I watched your channel, and subscribed :-) I will try this. An agriculture instructor told me that although compost will make the leaves grow big, that I will need to supply the soil with Potassium fertiliser for the yam (I am in Sri Lanka) . Is it enough to put compost (as you show) only at the beginning of the planting? Does it need more fertiliser (compost) regularly until it is ready to harvest in 2.5 months?
Thank you very much for commenting.🙏 I grew these entirely organically and the results were great. I mainly used compost, but also added cow and lamb manure once or twice. The 3 primary elements plants require to grow are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Compost has all these 3 elements (and many other minor elements), but the amount per unit is less, compared to chemical fertilizers. So, you need add more compost to get the same amount of nutrients. I usually add compost when initially preparing the beds or pots and then add compost every 2 weeks until harvesting. This way, plants get all the nutrients they require without needing any chemical at all. Yeah, please give it a try and happy gardening to you! :)
