Meeglolla is a small hamlet in Yatimadura GS division in Walapane Provincial Secretariat. The village lies bordering the Victoria Randenigala Rantambe Sanctuary and on the boarder of Central and Uva province.
Kuda Oya is a water stream which flows along the border of the wildlife sanctuary passing Yatimadura . Two kilometers further down, this steam joins the infamous Uma Oya which in turns joins Mahaweli River.
Kuda Oya flows over a long rocky surface at Meegolla. This rock bed where the water flows is full of large and small natural cavities. These cavities has been created by the strong currents in the river during rainy reasons repeating for thousands of years. The rock bed also looks as its formed of Sand Stone. The mountain range on the side of the sanctuary along the river is called Lunuweligala according to the one inch map, an indication of the sand stones in the area.
At one large cavity, the water completely disappears after flowing in to the cavity. Further down the river this water again joins the river though a smaller cavity. During times of high water flow, the water shoots out of this cavity and you can see fairly large rocks which has been shot out collected at the bottom.
In addition, it is said that there are ruins of a palace close to this area hidden by the jungles. According to legend, king Walagamba had two palaces in this area. The palace in the upper area has been known has Uda Maligayand the lower area has been known as Yati Maligaya.
Walking further down the exit cavity, a treasure is believed to be hidden inside one of the cavities. An attempt has been made to blast the area said to be key hole, but luckily the rock has only chipped without much damage.
To reach this site, you need to take the Udupusellawa road from Walapane and travel up to Dambagolla junction which lies 11 km from Walapane. From Dambagolla take the pictursque road of Madulla though small hamlets, forests and paddy fields. The Golumale site lies about 3 km on this road. There is a small handwritten board marking it as Golumale at point where you need to get off the road.
From here here you need to walk down across a paddy field. At the edge of the paddy field and the river, there is a electric fence to stop wild elephants from the Victoria Randenigala Rantambe Sanctuary crossing in to the village. To reach the river you need to creep through this fence.
This area is a popular bathing place but certain places and cavities are deep therefore its not advisable to bath here intoxicated. As always bring back your litter after the visit.
