Sura Saradiel, who lived in Utuwankanda as his stronghold, was a hero of the common people who lived in this country during the British colonial period. What Saradiel did was to steal money from the rich people who lived at that time and distribute it to the poor people. That is why Saradiel is known as the "Robinhood of Sri Lanka". However, he was later arrested and sentenced to death. Shortly after his execution, the governor sent a messenger ordering it to be revoked, but Saradiel was killed when the messenger arrived. A proud statue of Saradial can still be seen at Galigamuwa Junction.
Climbing is not difficult, as you can see the mountains clearly. But it is wise to climb without making too much noise because there are wasps.
The other important thing is that the road near the top of the hill is very dangerous. So do not take small children. The most dangerous is the top of Utuwankanda hill. It has a space of about 3 square meters. There is a big precipice in the corner. It's also hard to climb to the top. That journey is not one that can be taken by a sick or elderly person anyway. When you finally reach the top of the mountain, do not forget to visit the cave in the middle of it. There is a tunnel and it is considered to be a secret passage used at that time. After a short walk, you will come to a cave surrounded by rocks. You can take the Colombo Kandy Road and turn right at Utuwankanda Junction to enter the Saradiel Village.
