It is of interest to note that Mudliyar's wife(miss Maud clarice sooriyabandara) is none other than one of the aunts (loku amma-mother's sister) of late Mrs J. R. Jayawardhana.Anybody can see it on a plaque located on the ground floor of this mansion which displays the family pedigree of both mudliyar and his wife.
My god the music is so annoying as though it’s for a horror film!! I had to reduce the volume.. sorry for this comment, but I’m sure many will agree. It’s a very valuable video. I did the UDAGIRA teledrama at this location.. I hope they protect this building for many more centuries. Thank you for this informative video.
Well Sri Lankans are funny, they must have waited to take the photograph of surprised face of the Maha Raja!. Why don't they give this marvelous place to an architect to make it look more amazing. and the story of the owner suits to a movie.
A failing design as far as 'design with climate' is concerned. This may be a good design for countries with much less rainfall. The elements are taken from Italian Classical Architecture. Palladio is well celebrated here. Building elements, vis-a-vie exterior walls should never be exposed to rain in SL. The continuous verandah, central courtyard, single bank design are all good concepts. High ceilings is another virtue. Well worth preserving. Even with modern technology and materials regular maintenance would be required to keep the exterior walls from sustaining rain damage, moss, and fungi.
I agree, it's a beautiful building that needs immediate renovation. Has anyone inherited this building? What about the decedents? Who owns the property now?
