This is ❤. We need to protect the few remaining treasures in Ethiopia. Minimal human footprint is a must if we are to sustain. That does not mean humanity should not benefit from it but it can be developed as an eco-friendly global asset and generate income from non destructive practices. Agriculture, particularly cereal crop farming at a mechanized scale should be avoided. Subsistent eco farming may not be that problematic, but focus on fruit trees and shrubs would be better, both for consumption and marketing. We can do large scale mechanized farming n already vegetated landscapes through irrigation development. Ecosystems like this should be preserved to serve as sources of rivers for such irrigation in lowlands. Systemic change to supply cereal food needs to the population here from those irrigated lands instead of forcing them to farm in-situ should be instituted. Ethiopia needs a serious land use plan and policy to set no-go areas like this for short term gains.
