Thank you for presenting to us Girum and his quartet. It is refreshing to hear a pure jazz with Ethiopian flavor. Girum’s guitar playing has a unique sound (‘flavor’) of its own (may be a combined style of Earl Klugh & George Benson), very pleasant to listen to. I admire him for staying true to his passion and pursuing the style of music that he fell in love with. Many others pursue what is popular out there and what gets them the big crowd. But it seems to me that Girum let his heart be led by the art, not by the crowd; and let the beauty of the art mastered by him attract its lovers. It may take time. But I am sure, there will be a growing number of Ethiopians who will come to appreciate his style of jazz music. I enjoy it immensely. My hat’s off to Girum and his quartet.
