Prof. Getachew is a man with conscience. For some, Facing those hard truths is not an easy task. I am greatful to you for telling us the crystal truth about the student movemtnt of that time. Amazingly, You still recall situations and some occurrences as if they have happened yesterday.

I remember it differently: This was in Arat Kilo. You are right Legesse Zenawi was "ጕረኛ"/ loose mouse. Another loose mouse person I remember was a guy by the name of Zerai. That said, 1st, yes, I remember Legesse Zenawi offended you saying: "comrade Getachew, your English is rather shaky..." 2nd, I remember Legesse run for USUAA's congress in his Freshman and failed. However, I remember him being elected in his second year run. 3rd) you were not as comfortable as Aboma giving speech in English. Aboma was fluent and bombastic, delivering speech in English. And I thought that was why you used to speak in Amharic more often rather than in English and not the reason you gave in the previous interview. 4th, contrary to what you said about Legesse Zenawi favoring Eritreans, it was the other way. I remember him making a statement in a conflict resolution gathering between Eritrean and Tigrean Lab School students when he was a first year student accusing Eritreans of downing/demeaning Tigray.
It was an interesting discussion but felt Getachew was unduly unfair to Meles and I sensed a bit ad hominem hatred. Say what you say about Meles and his blunders (system of succession that allowed people like Abiy to take over Ethiopia, divide and rule and blunder over Assab), he also left an indelible legacy by introducing federalism, language equity, the GERD and a period of stability/economic growth.
Because of the journalist's bold hatred of Melese & Tigrians, he loves to make a chorus for an ordinary & fabricated character assassination. Melese has good and bad qualities, just as any human being, and he did excellent and erroneous things in his political discourse. Dr. Getachew is a senior & different faculty student from Meles, and it is common in the Ethiopian academy environment that the junior knows more about their senior, not vice-versa; Getachew pretends as if he knows all the nitty-gritty of Melese and further, he went from Gore to Wingette to tell us a funny story of that circulated on the traditional gossip market. However, Dr. Getachew spits all the bad on Melese to appease the current political heat and content the journalist's interest. If this interview were during the Derege regime, all the character assassination would obviously go to Shimeles Mazengia.
About 2 years ago, when the people of Tigray were denied all things by evil abiy, Getachew was saying Tigray was not undersigde. His hate for Tigeryans is beyond the vale. He has not done anything to Amharas other than feeding them ha.te.
@@wediofla3230 If Dr. Getachew had been fair and genuine, he could have talked about Legesse Zenawi's academic caliber, which was already confirmed and reported in the public media of the then government, rather than talk about the street boys' habit.
What dr begashaw over conflict and did not understand is The struggle they waged at that time is all qere against what they called the monarchy in a sens the amhara dominated government. All his friends from the other ethics we re using them to advance their agenda. This was evident later after every one goes to struggle for their ethnic identity including ertrieans.
