Retired U.S. Secret Service Officer Eyes Return to Cambodia to Help Train Dogs
លោក អួន ប៊ុនឡឺត ជាជនភៀសខ្លួនកម្ពុជាម្នាក់ ដែលបានមករស់នៅសហរដ្ឋអាមេរិកកាលពីឆ្នាំ១៩៨៣។ ពេលមកដល់ដំបូងលោកមានតែបាតដៃទទេរ ហើយថែមទាំងមិនចេះនិយាយភាសាអង់គ្លេសទៀតផង។ តែការតាំងចិត្តនិងការតស៊ូបូករួមជាមួយភ័ព្ធសំណាងល្អ នៅទីបំផុតបានធ្វើឱ្យលោកបានក្លាយខ្លួនទៅជាមន្ត្រីកងការពារប្រធានាធិបតីសហរដ្ឋអាមេរិកម្នាក់។ ក្រោយពីបានបំរើប្រធានាធិបតីសហរដ្ឋអាមេរិក ៤រូប អស់រយៈពេល២០ឆ្នាំ ១០ខែ អតីតមន្ត្រីកងការពារប្រធានាធិបតី លោក អួន ប៊ុនឡឺត ថ្លែងថា លោកចង់វិលត្រឡប់ទៅប្រទេសកម្ពុជាវិញ ដើម្បីយកចំណេះដឹងនិងបទពិសោធន៍របស់លោក ទៅជួយប្រទេសកំណើតរបស់លោក។ តទៅនេះជាបទសម្ភាសន៍របស់លោក អួន ប៊ុនឡឺត ជាមួយវីអូអេខេមរភាសា។
After more than 20 years of service in the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division protecting American presidents and vice presidents, Leth Bun Oun turned in his badge at the end of October. But the former Cambodian-American refugee, who could speak only a few words of English when he arrived in the U.S. in 1983 as a teenager, did not want to stop working. “I’ve paid my dues in the U.S., the country that saved my life,” Mr. Oun told VOA Khmer in an on-camera interview. “Now I want to return to Cambodia to help train dogs and therefore help raise the profile of the country that now hosts many international events.” In February, Mr. Oun published his memoir, “A Refugee’s American Dream: From the Killing Fields of Cambodia to the U.S. Secret Service." He said he plans to donate the proceeds from the book to help school children in his hometown in Battambang province, Cambodia.
