Marja-Leena Heikkilä-Horn from Mahidol university in Thailand has pointed several times in her studies that Thai has mostly adopted culture from [indianized] Khmer empire after their [Tai people] mass migration from Southern China. Khmer Bokator existed long before Thai people ever settled modern-day Thailand. There is no proof of Muay Thai being older than Khmer Bokator, but there are thousands of pieces of evidence of Khmer Bokator existing before Muay Thai. It is very simple history, that all Thai scholars admit, for example; Thai script being based in Khmer script [Khmer script being distinctively based in Brahmi script] and that the rounded letters in Thai are adopted from Mon script. This all is also approved by all Thai scholars, and other international scholars who have studied the history of SEA. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being based in some other culture, as every culture would be considered mixed, influenced, changed by other more dominant cultures. Khmer culture was Indianized, and now Thai culture has been the same way influenced by Khmer culture. There is nothing wrong with that, but we, the rest of the world find it sad that Thai people are incapable of admitting this. Love your Muay Thai and your beautiful Thai culture, and let Kun Bokator flourish again after hundreds of years, or are you perhaps intimidated by growing popularity of Cambodia and Khmer culture around the world?
