His Excellency, Lok Chumteav and many professional officials from relevant ministries and institutions also inspected the progress of the preparation work for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Prek Chik Funan Techo project.
Please be informed that the 180-kilometer Funan Techo canal project is one of Cambodia's largest waterway infrastructure projects, which is planned to have an investment of about 1.7 billion dollars and is planned to be implemented within 4 years, will provide great benefits to society. - Cambodia's economy, such as expanding connectivity, multi-modal transportation systems, competitive distance, time and cost of transportation directly to the sea, increasing the scope of irrigation and flood relief, helping to expand and increase productivity in the southwest. From fishing and aquaculture, as well as promoting tourism and investment, especially the establishment of special economic zones, industrial zones and export processing.
In terms of profitability, the flow of freight passing through once completed, the Funan Techo canal project will bring Cambodia between $ 88 million and $ 570 million a year from the diversion of freight through Vietnam. According to the canal itself, according to HE Sun Chanthol in a presentation on the progress of the Funan Techo canal on May 3, 2024.
Currently, the flow of Cambodian goods to the port of Sihanoukville is 67% by all means of transport, while exports through Vietnam account for 33% of total total exports. HE Sun Chanthol stated that when the Funan Canal is completed, the flow of goods to the Cambodian seaport will increase to 90%, while the export through Vietnam will be only 10%.
It should be noted that the Funan Techo Prek Chik project will hold the groundbreaking ceremony on August 5, 2024 under the high presidency of His Excellency Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Funan Techo Canal Project is a visionary initiative of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the King of Cambodia, and has been implemented by the Royal Government of the 7th legislature. Of the National Assembly to leave a historical legacy for future generations for thousands of years to come.
