I was holding my breath when the lady is showing Shanae to eat with with hand, a eating habit frown up in the West. However, Shanae adapts so quickly. I hope Shanae does not mind the word "A'Kieng" from the French Américaine(feminine) / Américain(masculine). Naturally there are nuances in different context. In this context, "A'Kieng" is an endearment term meaning a person of America or d'Amerique.
Khmer have finger foods, not hand foods like Indian, Black sub-Saharan Africans, and Middle Eastern who literally immerse their fingers in saucy soupy foods. Huge difference! I always hated getting my hands dirty even when eating BBQ wings or shellfish ever since I was a little kid and had this awareness to discrimate the difference between finger foods versus hand foods in recent years when I saw videos of how black Africans, Indians and Middle Eastern eat on social media. Definitely not the same as how Khmer eat. And you can’t compare prahok to pizza it’s literally not the same to make such a comparison. 🤣🤣🤣 Prahok shares the same etymology as the English and Latin word “preserve”. It has its origin in Sanskrit.
