This harp has 16 strings and is similar to the Myanmar harp known as the 'Saung-Guak'. The khmer harp can be found on carvings on temple walls dating back to the 7th century such as Prasat Sombor Prei Kuk or the 13th century temple known as Bayon or Prasat Benteay Chhmar. This harp has many head styles such as a curved one, naga head or garuda head. The instrument can be played by both male and female.
