@@hf..7271 Yes, I have been there couple of times because of business trip during mid of 70s whilst Cambodia was little bit under stable condition from the view point of political movement. Town was so neat and clean. People were so friendly and kind. My return was early 90's where cars and trucks with UN mark were everywhere. Then I worked for Japanese company near Pochenton airport two years several years ago. But town and people are still under recovering from the damage of aftermath. Hope grow steady way without any more harsh time.
They were more westernized and embraced modernization more. Filming was new and modern rock was a new hip things for them to embrace as well. The 60s fashion was a huge hit too. People seem to work harder on things to perfect their craft. Nowadays we have a lot of people who take short cuts and many uneducated people still roaming around Cambodia. Education was a priority during the 50-70s after gaining independence from France. As we all know France tried hard to limit education in the kingdom because a smart group would seek to gain independence. Then tragedy hit and all that work and education just went out the door or more specifically buried with all the dead’s. Sadly Cambodia is still not the same even after 45 years. I find it odd though as they were able to achieve a lot in a short period after French independence but 45 years after the Khmer Rouge it’s taking longer
I think it’s the change in demographics after the war that’s causing the stagnation. The country has always been multiethnic and multicultural. People who mostly moved and live inland aren’t from the same background as the people before. Also, it doesn’t help that those in leadership positions have largely been uneducated and doesn’t hold the same values as the ones before.
