On May 8, 2024, HE Tho Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, accompanied by HE Technical Officers of the Ministry and Department of Water Resources and Meteorology of Takeo Province, as well as HE Ouch Phea, Governor of Takeo Province and local authorities. Inspected the progress of Canal Rehabilitation Project No. 15 in Sambour commune, Traing district, Takeo province.
Please be informed that Canal No. 15 in Sambour Commune, Traing District, Takeo Province has encountered a shallow land situation that requires the Ministry of Water Resources to rehabilitate. Rehabilitation of Canal No. 15 includes the rehabilitation of 4 main canals, 11 first sub-canals, 10 second canals (Kep Cheung canal) with a total length of more than 56 km, of which the land canal is more than 32 km long. And a 23-kilometer-long concrete canal and a pumping station equipped with four electric motors. So far, the work progress has reached about 70%.
On that occasion, HE Minister met with local people and conveyed the greetings and condolences of His Excellency Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the people.
The Minister said that Canal 15, which connects Angkor Borei to Daun Keo, serves not only to irrigate agricultural land, but also as an important shipping lane for transporting agricultural products produced by farmers and a major waterway. There is potential for trade with neighboring countries, which also helps promote economic development.
At the same time, HE Minister praised the progress of the work achieved and instructed the working group to continue to cooperate with local authorities and stakeholders to promote the successful implementation of the project as planned, ensuring quality for use. Long lasting.
It should be noted that Canal No. 15 has the potential to serve the interests of three local people: Traing district, Angkor Borei district and Daun Keo city and has the capacity to irrigate about 12,000 hectares of arable land.
