Here's my take on the Kiesel Solo Contest. Hope you like it :) To get the tab, please share this video on your social media and let me know and I'll send you the tab. Thank you!
I happened to stumble across this. I have no need to watch any other contestants because this instantly wins in my book. seriously, wow. that was impressive.
Didn't even know the contest existed till now. I hope you win man. That was so great. Watched it three times now and I'm not a big solo guy. What's the prize?
I was on the toilet again listening to this, and I have felt so constipated all day, but that final "TAP-RAAAAAAAAAECH! helpt release everything! Amazing solo, and as before, sluta aldrig spela!
John you are an amazing player and after watching other entries you clearly deserve to win. Awesome tones out of the Kemper. Glad to see that you still keep the Elmwood. Greatings from Costa Rica!
Well firstly, Congrats for getting into the top 30 man! Secondly, I can't believe i didn't come across your entry till now. Fantastic playing dude. I have heard all the "LEGIT" entries and yours stands out. The phrasing ideas are out of this world, Love how you mixed the dominant/mixolydian sound in there man. Cheers. You are DEF in my top 5.
Hey man. Thank you SO much. It was a really fun track to solo over and I'm happy that you like what I do :) Tabs are available if you're interested in learning it.
Are you fucking serious? lol... This contest is full of absolutely amazing players...and after every video i watch, its almost depressing.....This take is incredible! I can't even comprehend what i just watched....Ive been working on these scales for so long, and the only thing i could possibly emulate from this one, is holding the guitar maybe lol....jesus....anyways, amazing job! I shared it on my facebook because this is by far the most smooth and fluent entry I've seen so far :D but I don't know what I would do with the tab besides look at the bunch of stuff I'm not able to play xD
Nice playing. You don't see many scalloped fretboards around. They look comfortable but I think my Fred Flintstone fingers would bend strings sharp on every note.
Shot you an email through fb message, check your Message Requests. If I put my email here I'll be flooded with copulation requests from random porn stars and I who's got time for that. :D
+John Huldt Indeed! He must know all your guitar secrets.. Hey, exactly how many hours have you spent practicing guitar, and how long does it take you to write out a tab for a part like that?
1. No clue. But I've played guitar every day for 20 years. With very few exceptions. 2. Not that long. Maybe an hour or so. As long as there's not a bunch of really weird rhythmic stuff it's pretty fast moving.
+John Huldt Damn, 20 yrs,, well, obviously it shows! If u don't mind my asking, what age did u pick up the guitar? Also, I might suggest you ditch the Hulk figurine for a (much more appropriate) Master Shredder (unless there's already one in there somewhere)!
Hey, remember me? I bothered you with dumb drummer jokes on your Caprice no. 24 video. Seeing how good you are, I have a question about some aspect of recording (which happens to involve drums): when you're recording guitar tracks, do you prefer having a drum track (programmed/whatever) already prepared and playing, or perhaps even just a simple drumbeat to give a better sense of the tempo, or do you just use a metronome? It's probably because I rarely attempt recording and my sense of rhythm could be better, but I found in my few attempts that if I try to add a drum track after recording some guitar tracks over a metronome, it accentuates how "off" I'd recorded. Now, I can barely program decent drumbeats, but I think having them before I have the actual melodies and their rhythm to interact with will be even more difficult to me; and then of course there are often sections where you don't want drums at all. So... basically, do you find it recommended to at least generate a simple, temporary drumbeat to record over (also on the parts that won't have drums) if you intend to work out the actual drum track later instead of using a simple clicking metronome? **I DI straight into my DAW through a BabyFace Pro interface, and I don't think latency should be the issue. I tested the DAW's synchronization by routing the phones output back into the instrument input and recording a click track onto a second track: it automatically compensated for whatever round trip latency there was and perfectly aligned the second track. I obviously have to monitor my live guitar playing through the interface as well, but I think that the round trip latency is no more than a few milliseconds, basically being in the acceptable range.*
Hey man. I do both. I think it's much easier to play with a better feel if there's already drums on it. Playing to a click tends to get a bit rigid so I would def recommend throwing down some rudimentary drums first. If it's real technical stuff (like djenty metal) I will program all the pertinent hits and syncopations. Is it something simpler I'll just get some kick snare hat action going.
John Huldt Thanks for the reply! Well, I haven't attempted recording any djent yet, but for stuff that have compound meters I think dividing the drumbeat accordingly within the bars should work fine. As I can't work out possible drum patterns within my head all that well, I don't think writing the actual drums before recording anything would work for me. I just hope a simple drumbeat would cut through and work better than a metronome's click, because I'm doing some simple 4/4 recording and finding out I'm the Lars Ulrich of guitar (microtiming deviation FUCK YEAH!).
Haha everything is possible with practice. Also, find a drum friend and ask him to teach you the basics of drumming. It will make your programming a lot better.
John Huldt yeah I get that but I don't really know how to explain but it doesn't really matter much i guess ;) I'm not sure but you did demos at namm aren't you?
I believe it takes another guitar player to really appreciate how hard it is to do what you do so effortlessly. I'd be sweating, cramping etc lol. Keep it up, brother.
It should be available somewhere if you poke around. I don't think I have it anymore. Look up Lyman Gillen on Facebook and ask him. He's the guy who made it.
Nah, you bent a few notes. You're technically awesome and you know that. 569 thumbs up and 3500 subs, so I didn't think you needed any more ego stroking. I love ear candy as much as anyone. But that solo was so second nature and safe for you that it was obvious in your sound and performance is all I'm saying.
