Louis was actually a judge on X Factor in 2018 and he was fantastic on it haha. I remember seeing tweets of people who weren't One Direction fans loving him as a judge.

you asked about who it was that asked for the hiatus and it was actually harry he spoke about it a bit in an interview he did with rolling stone in 2017, he first brought up the idea of the band taking a break in 2014 (which is before zayn left) he said "i didn't want to exhaust our fanbase, if you're shortsighted you can think 'Lets just keep touring', but we all thought too much of the group to let that happen". I'm sure harry liked the boys but by the end of it he wasn't enjoying it and had some issues which he only recently spoke about in his "better homes and garden" interview in 2021 in which he spoke a little bit about his struggles in the band, about the cleanliness clauses in the contracts he used to sign and about how he cried after signing his solo contract knowing his ability to make music would not be affected by personal transgressions anymore, a reaction that he says even he was shocked by but then explained saying "i felt free". I'd say it had more to do with the band's management than the band itself though. louis on the other hand said he wasn't a big fan of the decision “It wasn’t necessarily a nice conversation. I could see where it was going" and "I was bitter and angry, I didn’t know why we couldn’t just carry on. But now, even though I don’t fully understand everyone’s individual reasons, I respect them." are some of the things he had to say about it. It all ended up pretty well for them both anyways though.

Yeah, with Liam it's quite sad really. I think a lot stems from low self esteem and mental health/alcohol addiction. He is hugely talented but seems insecure when surrounded by other competing talents. Unfortunately his personal coping strategies make him seem like a try hard

I feel like Liam hasn't totally found hi niche yet. As well he has struggled with alcohol abuse due to some of what happened while touring and basically being locked in their hotel rooms a lot while touring. As others have said there is a really great interview he did this past year 'Diary of a CEO' that gave me a new appreciation for Liam and in general what it was like for them touring and not really having much freedom. The others have made comments in various interviews as well. I do like some of Liam's solo music but not all of it like I do the three boys you both like the most so far.

About the break/hiatus thing, Louis said in a recent interview that when the person (or people) who wanted a break said it to the rest of the band, Louis insisted on knowing if it was just a hiatus and how long a hiatus it was, and that no one was able to give him a straight answer, only that it was a hiatus. And that for a long time (couple years) Louis actually believed that, until he realized that it wasn't the real intention and went for his proper solo career. Also, personally the "star" "the one that stood out" about Harry to me it's always felt like a curated thing by the own label, a bit like a self-fulfilled prophecy i guess, but that's just a personal feeling.

You’ve come at 1D and the individual artists like I did. Harry, Niall, Louis, and 1D. It’s taken me a while to learn about them and to learn for example how many of the 1D songs that Louis and Liam wrote. I’m about to finally listen to Liam’s music as some of his fans are using his songs to back up photos of 1D and I’ve liked the ones I’ve heard. I think Liam was fine on stage-when you watch a lot of videos… you get a greater sense of his ability to work a crowd. I’m hoping that now he’s sober, we might see the performer he can be. Of course, Harry has obvious star quality.

To answer your question at the end yes people were definitely picking up that harry was "the star", not only was he the most loved in the fandom he also got the most attention in general, media even used to call them "harry and his band" (i remember that used to piss alot of directioners off lol not gon lie it upset me too back then) and there'd be all typa jokes and skits on 1D being "harry and..." on random TV shows and stuff like that but I feel like all those childish jokes the general public used to make aside he was also genuinely respected as an individual in the industry like i noticed harry definitely did alot of networking back in the 1D days he even wrote songs for other artists (for example he wrote one for ariana grande when he was 19 while still in the band). There were no official positions in the band whatsoever but if we're being honest harry was definitely viewed as the frontman by most.

About Harry in Dunkirk, he auditioned 6 times for the part and Nolan says Harry won the part over famous household names. It was a $100 million budget movie and a 2 yr passion project for Nolan, so please don’t dismiss Harry’s acting talent as “Nolan could of made anyone do well” Also Harry got a reputation from the work he put in shooting Dunkirk under very demanding conditions as someone you can rely on to always be professional on a film set and do whatever is asked of him however challenging. He actually damaged his wrist while filming and needed surgery afterwards

Liam struggled with alcohol for awhile. And it’s unfortunate as he is a nice guy. He did a really reveling honest interview that gave a lot of insight. But Liam is actually extremely talented singer and a good songwriter. But he isn’t singing in what is his real wheelhouse (crooning!) He wanted to do hip hop, etc and it didn’t suit him. So he has had a bumpy start. If you ever watch the Coca-Cola video of Clouds you will hear what his range is and what a good singer he is.

No way Harry wanted to keep going. Louis and Niall, yes, Harry, I don't think so. I think he enjoyed being in the band, but I also think he was ready to go try things on his own. He's not the same person now, and to tell the truth, I prefer the old Harry.

Yeah Harry always stood out to me and I was very excited for his solo stuff. And he has not disappointed with his solo work so🤷‍♀🤷‍♀

It's really interesting to see your reactions, because for years people complained that Harry was pushed in front to be the popular one. They said that it was predetermined by management. But you've proven them wrong, because you didn't know any of that, and still picked Harry as standing out. I was the same. Really didn't know anything about any of them, but instantly connected to Harry, his personality, voice, and music.

Liam had the position of having to take care of the boys too since the band was formed too. I feel bad he was basically the parent and was basically the yes man which sucks because he was young and didn't get to do the fun stuff in the group. He was a buzzkill. He was also alcoholic and has to take mood stabilizer medicine because of 1D. It was horrible. He's talented at singing though.

Even if it was a shaky beginning, looking back it is easy to see how Harry stood out and became the star he is. It's obvious he loves performing and he is a great showman. The others: Niall, Louis and Liam all have their individual styles as well and are different than Harry, but I think it's easy to see they love performing as well. Who you gets drawn to has more to do with what your own tastes lies in I think. (And you can like different things for different reasons). I know you don't like long essays here but you did ask/talk about it. And yes, I watched your whole reaction... of course! Now, about Liam, I get what you mean. I was never drawn to Liam in the same way as some of the others but I like him and really wish he'll find his way and he will be happy. He was entertaining the crowds in their concerts a lot actually. Not in the way that Harry did but with how he danced around and had eye contact with the crowd. Liam was put in a difficult position in the band as he was seen as the "responsible" one. And even if they were the same age he became the minder, the dad, of the group. I mean. Liam has his struggles and there is one long interview where he is very open and talk about it. They all dealt/struggled with fame in different ways. For Liam that started even before One Direction as he became known in the UK when he auditioned for X-Factor 2 years prior in 2008. I wasn't aware of this before this interview but I think it made it clear his struggles with fame began there, when he was 14. Having a personality that is to please others I think it's understandable how you might get lost and end up not knowing who you are. It's pretty sad. And no, I don't think the band will ever get back together. Perhaps for a collaboration of sorts but not as a whole band.

56:52 That was my silver lining when finding out the boys would split …knowing they’d not only have a chance to breathe from doing so much in the 5 years together, but it was knowing that if they’d make solo music we’d see what genre and the type of music they’d make and all my predictions were correct. Niall & Harry Old school pop/rock, Louis: Indie Pop/Rock and Liam hip hop and Zayn R&B. I would REALLY love for them to come together preferably 5/5 but if it was 4/5 I’d be happy with that too. At this point in my life and growing up with them…I just want them to be healthy & happy and NOT over worked !!

Be careful when saying things about Liam as Louis is very close with him and will defend him always. That being said, Liam did an interview where he admitted to alcoholism and how he has dealt with the bands departure. I do think he is still processing things and finding his way. He is actually a very talented person. You should watch the interview. It was one on one.

Liam was put in an awful position at the beginning of 1D they made him the school Prefect and when anything went wrong he was the one got in trouble so he had to try and control the boys and you can imagine how that went down. So he was judged on that from the beginning. Louis protects him like a lion. Liam's Mum said she loves Louis because he always made Liam laugh. There are so many things nobody knows about the boys and I think Liam has had a hard time and not always made good choices but I love Liam and wish him the success he deserves with his talent.

You don’t sound like a jerk about Liam. His album didn’t do very well and I think it’s because it’s the same subject matter all the way through and he went the easy route to me and made radio songs. It makes me mad because with his voice he could do so much better. I think he needs others around him to be his best. Nothing wrong with that, but doesn’t bode well with someone trying to be a solo artist.

If only 1D worked liked Kpop groups they put out osts and solo work but always come back and do group work. Like EXO did solo work while they went to the military and come back for a full group album. It would be even more interesting ngl.

Louis’ success isn’t anything to sniff at. He had a sold out world tour and he played arena and stadiums too.

Liam has an absolutely beautiful voice but no star quality. He seemed like a lovely person and a good friend in the band. He hasn’t done any work in the industry that makes him stand out.

I've never heard anyone say liam is not an artist like every other song of one direction is written by him most of the songs he's the one harmonizing live with the boys y'all don't know him enough to judge

With Liam my opinion is doesn’t come easy he try’s to hard.

James C is a good friend with most of the boys, esp Harry (who was at James wedding), Niall and Louis. Harry & Louis would go hang out at James house starting early on in 1D. In addition Ben Winston, James’ show Exec Prod, wrote and directed most of 1D’s videos. So it was all in the family this event. James also helped write the video for Best Song Ever, one of their most famous videos.

Nope, Harry wanted to explore his sound he wanted to go on a hiatus. Louis wanted to keep going with the band. But haz took a cue from zayn and dipped. I'm so glad they did Coz we got so many amazing songs from them. I love them and they all doing so much better now.

Liam can do anything you ask him to do, but he needs somebody to collaborate with. He's just not a solo artist.

It takes so much to gain broad appeal - and I would add broad appeal involves no small amount of sacrifice. I only came to 1D via Harry after his first album caught my notice. I like some of the music and all of the guys, and I wish all the guys well. That being said, they all need to do the work themselves. The idea that they should gain fans based on their ex bandmates’ popularity/success is misguided.

Greetings gentlemen, very nice reaction , interspersed, as always, with funny messages. Personally, I think that Harry, even though he was the youngest, stood out from the boys. He has incredible charisma, he was great at entertaining the audience, he sang the most demanding passages, Niall, with his infectious laugh, was the sunshine of the band. Louis didn't stand out and Liam sang really well, but he didn't come to terms with the fact that he wasn't the most popular of the group. (And as he himself said, he treated his problems with alcohol.) I think they all had their mark on the very early separation from their family and worldwide fame. They simply auditioned X factor and returned home only after 5 years. As for Harry's acting I'm not "on the branch" about him, but the fact is that he went through a tough audition in Dunkirk (there is a documentary about it) and won it among already well-known actors. No nepotism or Nolen influence. I'm sorry, but I don't think 1D is coming back, maybe they'll do a concert together.We'd be very happy for that, too. I've watched alot of y'all 1D reactions and it just feels like you're very good at writing people off before actually knowing them and comparing their demeanor to kids you know. Louis was not the most famous band member in 1D but y'all gave him a chance and realized he was amazing but you guys only listened to highlights of Zayn and the bearded one cake to the conclusion that he was some sort of bad kid (my interpretation) and y'all have never even seen any of Liam's solo work, I think. Like Polaroid or midnight. its true that Liam might be the least successful soloist of 1D but Liam's actually doing great for himself. Selling out tours, and all

Ryan, I agree with you about Liam... if you look at more content about the band, you'll see that, especially when it involves him and Harry, he tries to show himself more, makes an extra effort to show himself. He always had a bit of that feeling of superiority, since the beginning of the band, probably because they tried to make him the leader of the band (Simon and crew), but it didn't happen, because naturally, without forcing it, with the charisma Harry conquered most of the public and with all the effort and dedication, uniqueness, most of the media too. You can see that Liam is a bit envious of Harry from the band days, the gossip, implications in interviews. There's an interview that the whole time in the interview he tries to undo Harry and complain about his way, there's a part where, tired of that, Harry says 'That's me Liam, if you don't like (me) then...', they they never got along very well. They respect each other, but they've always been colder with each other since the beginning of the band because of Liam's 'envious pettiness'. Liam thinks he's superior, he's already said that in interviews wanting to make himself the greatest...

Louis was a judge on the X-Factor (Niall is now a judge on The Voice). Louis was, I think, the first X-Factor winner to ever go back and become a judge, and he was hugely successful - you should watch some of the videos of the people he coached: he even paid for rehab for one singer who was struggling. People loved him. Re Liam, they nearly didn't put him in the band because, as Simon put it: "He thinks he's better than the rest of them put together." He has spoken about how he felt neglected by the fans, who never screamed as loudly for him as for the others (every member had their individual fanbase). He indicated that he was told the band was built around him and his talents, and certainly he did get the opening lines on nearly all their early songs, but then other members, particularly Harry and Zane, kind of became more popular, so there may be an element of his nose being out of joint. Taylor and Harry's 'romance' is fake - it's even taught in colleges as a perfect PR set-up. But it did help both of them sell a lot of tickets.

Liam said he was glad 1D stopped because he was going to kill himself. He was given the role as the leader where he had to carry interviews and also was called up if any of the boys messed up, he had to answer to simon. You should watch his podcast The Diary Of CEO. Liam has said he does not want to tour because he son is still young, and he does not like to be away from him for too long. He also has said he never His first album, LP1 was one of the biggest streamed albums of 2019, with a sale of 3million (not sure now) and currently a total stream of 5 billion+. His first debut song was also one of the highest streamed and highest sold songs of 2017, and was also the highest sold debut single among the current members of 1D. He has struggled with alchoholism ever since one direction. Liam also plays 2 instruments a guitar and piano.
