Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan has slammed Barbie over the lack of male characters.
“There are a number of Barbie characters in the movie, one plays President Barbie, one plays Doctor Barbie ,,, however all the male characters in Barbie world are simply called Ken,” he said.
“So it’s pretty clear where this movie is going, this is an assault on not just Ken but all men.”

This is a pure example of making something out of NOTHING. Barbie has always been a doll for girls, a way for children to get a sense of glamor in the most unachievable standards, and that’s the point. Dolls are to make children dream and think beyond their reality. Simple as that. Doesn’t need to be political. It’s up to the parents to guide the child where to go from there

I still fail to see how Ken's depiction is an insult to all men? :I Literally, the happy end is that Barbie acknowledges the damage she has done to Ken by dismissing his feelings, acknowledging them and him finally trying to find himself as an own person, not just as an addition to Barbie.

It's not anti-men when audiences felt for the male. People loved Ken's role and are talking positively about him more than ever. It's called the Barbie movie, but Ken stole the show. Ken's now the one taking over pop-culture and memes. The real message of the movie was about equality and all these stupid societal expectations we ALL feel pressured by at one point or another. We've all felt like we have to be perfect or we're not good enough. Good enough for who or for what? We don't really know, but we still feel it at times. That's why "I am Kenough" is trending. We've all been Ken. TL;DR: For a movie that's supposedly anti-male, how tf is THE MALE of the movie the one trending in a good way? Ken has finally risen to pop-culture icon status thanks to the Barbie movie. This isn't what anti-male looks like.

Just when adulthood nikcs the door, is when we realise that treat guys as Ken is perhaps not fair.

I mixed mud, hauled rocks, shoveled sand, installed scaffolding and supports for stonework, packed stones up several levels of scaffolding.... BUT I was absolutely NOT strong enough to be a bricklayer. That is a man's job, generally because of the upper body strength and core strength requirements to fulfill the duties, but also because of the shear stamina that is required! You gotta be tough to rock out with the big boys! I have had many jobs in several male dominated fields. Woman ARE NOT THE SAME. As a person who played with Barbies when I was real young- Ken has ALWAYS been a "fill in the blanks" kind of male. The center of Barbie's world are the people who play with the dolls. I had my Ken as a rough and rugged farmer- *or building houses, a vet- out working in the fields while Barbie fixed dinner. Ken was the lifeguard next to the pool (blue felt square) that saves Barbie and visa versa. Because Ken was left mostly to the child's imagination with a few outfits to play in Barbie's world. Often though, with many little girls... Ken was on the sidelines, waiting to be brought into play. -- and the movie reflects this. A movie that was made to be a spoof so they are making fun of the fact-- Ken was just a blank slate.

It’s a movie about dolls. It keeps true to the franchise of Barbie and how Ken was never supposed to be forefront. He was actually an accessory to Barbie because boys typically didn’t play with Barbie and needed to be represented in careers. The great thing about movies is that people take away different things, especially with psychological and emotional pieces. Some people view barbie as a very important political piece and focus on that while others look at it as a metaphor for growing up and seeing Barbie’s innocence as the broken innocence of an aging woman. Not just aging women but an aging human. I’m sure everyone has/will at some point experience a realization with the aging body and mind and the heaviness of human emotion. It happens when we grow up and it can be scary seeing the body morph as well as the mind.

We wanted to dress up our Barbies in colorful outfits, brush her beautiful hair, drive her car, shop for her closet and home. SHE was the star of playtime, not Ken. As a boy in ancient times, I loved pretending and playing like I was Roy Rogers, Tom mix, Mickey mantle, Willie mays, GI Joe but I never became a professional ball player, cowboy or brave war hero. I became a supply sgt in military reserves and later, a psychologist but I fondly recall those memories, playing with neighborhood friends, sibs, and yelling, “Reach for the sky, I have you covered!” As a great granddad, it is sorta sad to see most of the kids in solitary mode, walking/sitting with earplugs and focused on iPhones/pads. We built forts, explored woods, played ball until dark when moms/dads called us home. Imagine, in our poor neighborhood, there were about 20 + kids playing games and doing things without supervision...and we rarely got trouble. You know 90% or more of those kids went to houses of worship on Sundays....I wonder if that helped, too! Forgive an old guy’s rambling...could not help it.

I felt like the movie showed a clear effort to distinguish between the male and patriarchy. It isn’t critical of ALL males because the movie presents Alan as a male who actively rejects patriarchy. If anything, if you were offended at how men were represented than you didn’t get it. Alan’s little hero scene (non alpha Alan gets an alpha male archetype fight scene) was the only time any man on the movie showed any kind of quote unquote masculinity. And it was great. We kind of get a moment for the often overlooked non-alpha males that step up to the plate when necessary. If that’s an issue for people, maybe realise this is a barbie movie. There are plenty movies that have male representation like idk maybe pick any between the beginning of film till now 😂 grown ass men, please cry about grown ass things - not Barbie movies

Women get their own movies like this where they’re allowed to shit on men, but we don’t get the same privileges. Most of the time, in divorce cases, mothers get custody. If a woman accuses a man of a crime, she will be taken seriously and the man will be punished even if he’s innocent. There are entire days and months dedicated to women. So please. Social media can be damaging in terms of setting unrealistic standards for women. Barbie or anything can be damaging under dire circumstances. But, it’s hard to argue that one pop icon can single handedly can undermine women. Women are capable and children at that to freely analyze fact from fiction and can dream and freely cultivate their own opinions. It’s people who are directly involved with young girls and have far more influence on their perception of themselves and the world around them.
@alejandroc7357

My main issue is who is putting these standards on women? I don’t think it’s the men to be honest. It’s other women. Women are free to make their own choices and they are still saying it’s men’s fault???? 😂 I’ve heard people say the world is built for men, but I don’t see it. Last I checked anything in my city I can go to and make purchases at ,a woman can also visit. Women can enroll to fight in the military. They can apply to be construction workers, oil field, concrete workers, welders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, roofers. If anything it sounds like men built the infrastructure and the world for both genders. 😂

@jennykononenko2527 no, they don't. Because to think that would be stupid. For this one person, bricklaying was harder. For another person, they might struggle a lot more with caring. It's because as humans, we have this thing called individuality. We each have things we love and hate. Could you argue bricklaying is a more physically demanding job? Yes, you could successfully argue that. But a job being more physically demanding doesn't automatically make it overall more difficult. At least you don't have to often watch people you've cared for die as a bricklayer. My dad is a train driver, a job far less physically demanding than a bricklayer, but he's also had multiple jumpers decide to use his train as a suicide weapon. He's had to watch a body explode all over his cab window. And it's really affected him over the years. I also have a friend whose job was to pick up the globs of flesh left over on the tracks. Again, not at physical as a bricklayer, but I'd argue much harder on the mind.

No, the movie is basically just feminist propaganda. It litteraly starts off with some little girls playing with their barbie dolls and then they start bashing the barbie dolls saying "We don't need to be mothers anymore!!" Then the movie also centers around women not needing men and hating men aswell (Ken is basically the antagonist in the movie and barbie hates him). On top of all that, many characters in the movie are played by transgender people, essentially giving the message that boys can be better girls than girls themselves, which is an attack not only on girls but also on boys. I pray that parents have the sense and moral foundation to not take their little girls to watch this movie. Scary times we're living in that this kind of garbage is what's popular.

Ken's whole existential crisis is accurate depiction of what most men go through when they don't feel appreciated. And it's part of why men are abandoning commitment in this modern age because society has done a very terrible job at teaching young boys that they're more than their ability to provide. They're also people who deserve to be loved and appreciated. Manospheres have been fear mongering and taking advantage of hopeless young men by playing the same game the toxic feminists are playing. Teaching them to be resentful for things not going their way. And both sides are going to lose eventually. I feel grateful I have a positive feminine mother and a masculine father who taught me what it means to be a good man and what to expect from a good woman.

I find it interesting that it seemed to portray both patriarchy and matriarchy quite well. I thought that was done with intention? Like both worlds aren't fair. It'll only get better if people actually work on it. I did get bummed that they didn't make a perfect happy ending where all Kens, Barbies, and Alan can live equally, but what type of fantasy is that? Maybe they brought in some level of truth into it. Barbie Land is just the real world in reverse and shows (in reverse) the struggles of overcoming matriarchy/patriarchy. The Kens are not going to have it easy to be equal in a society where Barbies have the power and control. Same way women had (and are - I know some people don't believe this, but you can at least acknowledge they did have it hard to be equal) struggles to be equal to the men in society. It didn't happen overnight and we have not seen the happy ending of our own real world. Since it focuses on Barbie mostly, the view of the matriarchy will skew the perspective of the movie, no?

People are such idiots!! This movie was not intended to hurt men and kens. This is a heartfelt movie that discusses the mistreatment and unfairness to women and barbie. Men have always been so-called “superior” women in society and always had more rights. But, now that women have more roles in society and are being treated more fairly, we can’t have a barbie movie?? Barbie is supposed to teach people, especially the young generation, what happens when 1 gender takes power and ignores the other gender. Barbie swapped society and made barbie (women) superiors to men. So, barbie (women) had all the roles and all the jobs. And, the kens (men) did nothing and lived nowhere. If this guy in this video actually watched the movie barbie, he would realize that at the end, “Barbie world” turned into “ken world” and then finally “Barbie & Ken”. This marked the day that both genders would share a world together with equal rights, feminism (which means equality to both genders), and more. The Barbie movie was supposed to teach people why our society needs to improve and get better so we can become “Barbie & Ken world”. I’m mad that Vietnam and Pakistan banned the movie. I wish more people could realize the importance of the Barbie movie to the world. It helps show and make meaning to fairness and equality for all races, genders, LGBTQIA+, people, interests, identify and what your passion is, and it promotes happiness & positivity & hopefulness. 😊

4:30 She just told 2 lies women do not get less pay, we had the whole soccer fiasco and it proved that women were getting paid the same even though they made less money for the teams, we also know there are no sewage female technicians or other very difficult jobs that men are the only ones that apply, because apparently it's too difficult or traumatizing for women to do. So I wouldn't call women being on the front line of the hardest jobs true either. This woman needs to get a real job so she can see what the real world. Maybe she needs to binge dirty Jobs and see all the men doing the jobs and the women not in most? When you need a quota of people with check boxes next to them then your talking about sexism and or racism. Simple as that, no butts.

the whole message of “she’s everything, he’s just ken” is just that Barbie has had hundreds of careers while ken was simply created to be a side character for Barbie 🤷‍♀️ it’s not the Barbie movie saying they are anti men lmao
@bl8388
@bl8388 11 месяцев назад
That is a good counter point. Also the trailer makes it seem like the film is going to have quite a bit of tongue in cheek humor. All named Ken sounds like a possible joke in a film with Will Ferrell in it. This is the issue with people criticizing the film weeks before it comes out. They criticize what they guess might be wrong with a film they haven't even seen.

You don't get the point. There have always been female side character advertised with Barbie too AND Ken at one time was more than a "side character" in the advertising. You did not look up the history of the product.

The movie is anti-men. The test screenings have called it "fiercely feminist" and men are the bad guy in the end.

I'm 56 and grew up playing with Barbie. To me, she was and still is a doll who taught being the best you can be in everything. Not once did I think she was a femi nazi or belittled Ken. I had a Ken too because he's Barbie's friend and everyone needs a friend:) Piers, you have lost your mind and taken this one too far.

Even on this panel the Black man is totally left out by design! Barbie is as racist as she has ever been and she remains the icon of white supremacy! Any Black woman who buys white dolls for her daughter is a self-loathing FOOL!

Woke mob when cornered they pull the “why are we not talking about this other issue?” card. That’s when you know they don’t have any arguments, so they try to take the conversation somewhere else. 😂

I am from the westside of San Francisco, California, USA and I have something very important that I want to state here which is that my neighborhood is home to two historic small local movie theaters that have been open since the 1910s and struggled during the pandemic. The showing of both Barbie and Oppenheimer at one of those theaters was a huge success in which it brought in more and more people never seen before in years, and they made so much money as a result enough to pay off whatever debts they had. You don't have to like the film but if you care and support historic movie theaters instead of chains one should at least say thank you. End of story.
