‘AN OUTRAGE’: Report finds 62% of food stamp recipients are able to work, but don’t 

America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt. In April alone, credit card debt went up 20% while rates have doubled in a year. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..

It seems like a solid way to generate extra income, but I wonder how it would affect one's portfolio in the long run.

Before we talk about cutting Americans off foodstamps. 1st we need to cut off illegal immigrants and foreign welfare payments.

You can have a full time job and still live below the present poverty level.

I’m all for helping those who need a hand up. I detest those that abuse the system for a permanent hand out.

It’s not government paying for food stamps it’s taxpayers. We need to stop referring to government as the source of funding when everything is funded by taxpayers.

Why do women on welfare receive more $$$$ for every kid she has, more food stamps, more free stuff? That's quite the incentive. And Social Security is at risk..people who worked their entire life?

Woman in store could not speak English so her daughter helped her with using her EBT card. Buying ice cream, and all kinds of sweets. Nice phone, gold watch, adorned with very nice jewelry, hair and nails very nice, both her and her daughter very well dressed. On her receipt it gives her food stamp balance after purchase...it was over $3000!!!! I was in shock!! Even more so when they got into a very nice Lexus outside. There definitely needs to be more investigation into people abusing the system.

People taking advantage of the system really hurts the folks that aren't able to work due to physical disabilities and advanced age...

This is why they vote Democrat. Free stuff!

What makes this worse all the Illegal Immigrants receiving these benefits as well.

As a disabled person, food stamps aren't enough to put food in my refrigerator all month. Things are so expensive that it's impossible to keep up. Able body Americans using food stamps is making it harder on those who really need the help because everything is anywhere between 5.00-15.00 more than they were. Our government needs a wake up call because we're suffering out here!

And we're paying for it while the government keeps raising taxes.

My father is 83 years old, lives on $1300 monthly SSI. I signed him up for SNAP, he receives $23 a month!! Don't grow old in the state of Wyoming, it's pathetic

What did we expect? When we are paying off everyone's student loans. Did I forget all these illegal immigrants being put up in Motels, meals, medical, and they think they should demand better accommodations. Plus, we are paying for the Ukraine War. Actually….people who work still qualify for food stamps if their income is low…it’s been this way for years. Even enlisted people in the military qualify for food stamps and many of them are on food stamps because their military pay is low. I don’t know why people still think that the only people who qualify for food stamps are people that don’t work.

The food stamp system is broken. The food stamp system should be better regulated, no soda, no sweets, no junk food. It's so stupid they can't buy a hot rotisserie chicken, yet can buy ice cream and cookies. Make it make sense.

I get burning mad when I see someone paying for their groceries with food stamps and they have an Apple phone, well groomed nails and carrying a brand name pocket book.

$100 nails. $300 braids. $100+ Nike. 80" flat screens. Laptops. Apple phones. Designer clothing.

What burns me is the number of women that will be at the nail salon and hair salon as soon as they get their “checks”!!!!

I want to work but they pay only 10$ an hour. 400$ a week. . I collect more not working.

I’ve worked my whole life, I’m 67 and retired and I have never taken a government hand out. We need to get these people off welfare and some if it is generational.

Those statistics are BS, I manage a grocery store and unless you actually work in the industry you don't know the half of what's actually going on. First of all, it's much higher than 62%. I would almost bet that more than half our customers that have foodstamps are between 20 and 30 years old. Then you have probably another 35% that are between 30 and 50 years old. The other 15% is 50 and up with a good percentage of them being able bodied for work. Then you have another supplemental food stamp card that mothers get so they can buy healthy food for their children and the amount is based on the amount of children they have. Now here's the part that will really drive you crazy. Probably 95% of these women are under 30 and a good percentage of them come in with children and are pregnant. So not only do we pay for these people to eat, we also pay for these people to get pregnant. These people have the nerve to let themselves get pregnant knowing that they already get everything for free. And if all that isn't bad enough it's Social Security that's going bankrupt and in danger of being gone by 2035, but you never ever hear them say foodstamps and welfare are going broke. So the people that go to work everyday that are paying into something may not get what's owed to them, but these cancers of society who don't work, don't care to work are safe for life. That's out wonderful system.

I tried to get food stamps when I was in college. I was denied because I was a college student. Which makes no sense at all.

We have known this for decades. The numbers are now more specific. We need to know, what will the govt do about it?

We should stop spending money overseas. Period

One thing that should be considered is if a person is over 50 years old companies consider you as a liability it’s age discrimination at its finest. Unless you are already working for the company from an earlier age and still there. So food stamps really help those in need. The older generation still wants to work in their 50’s but are overlooked for any potential position. So they hire younger people that don’t want to work. It’s just a mess.

Yeah and I've been working since I was 13. Raising 3 kids on my own for the last 10. Hurt my back at work in September..literally cannot work. Don't qualify for unemployment or injured workers because I was a contract worker. Doctor appointments and pain management. And I have to jump through hoops just to get 180$ a month of foodstamps. 180 Dollars for 3 people. I also have a disabled child. Why do all people think single parents get thousands a month!!!???? I still struggle to feed my kids. Growing boys. Remember, I've worked for 33 years of my 46 on this planet. There is tons of fraud...but honestly if they (DHHS) would do their job, frauds are easy to spot.

No one can make it on foodstamps and the money government would gives us not enough for rent or mortgage. Saying someone has a sitting home and getting foodstamps is highly unlikely! Most likely they are the working poor Have you ever tried to make it in foodstamps? It’s not enough to buy food for a month. And it’s not other items it takes to live. Like toothpaste- . I went to a reasonably priced meat market last summer. I remember walking through and figuring out how to best spend my money. I saw a black woman with gucci bags and 3" nails grabbing everything and throwing it in the cart. She paid with an EBT card. When i walked out with my stuff i noticed she was loading the back of a mercedes g wagon with all her groceries. The only reason why i file my tax returns is because its a crime not to do so. Makes my blood boil. Uncle sam can blow me.

My 87 year old mother gets $23 a month food stamps. She worked until she was 77. I think she should get more.

Food stamps not the problem they are a drop in the bucket compared to the defense department budget, it is way out of control, and much more than necessary to keep us safe.

Half my neighbors are on some sort of SSI and don’t work. They can mow the lawn, cut trees drive cars and motorcycles but can’t work. Also they live pretty good.

We forced millions to stay home for Covid and lots of their employers closed and so now we are complaining that their still getting food stamps... I don't know anyone who is happy with snap being enough to live on... What's so great about being on the edge of everything and having nothing but food . Thumbs Down Fox

Able just not willing, rather be lazy and live off the real taxpayers I remember when Illinois put a cap on public aid, only paying for 4 kids, keep having kids no extra money, then when the 4th one started school that parent (mom) had to either be in job training or working or all benefits were lost 100% then Pritzker got in office and it went away.

Gov’t also discourages people who need assistance from working. Working even a little disqualifies them from assistance (single parents trying to work make less than just staying home).

Disgusting. Shut down all Welfare programs and have people reapply.

Even drunken sailors stop spending when they run out of money.
