"Kia and Hyundai say anyone who has questions about their car's safety can call customer support". Customer support: "Oh yeah, your car's safety sucks".
Those auto manufacturers should be forced to recall their cars and fix the issue at no cost to the consumer. I wouldn't be surprised if Kia and Hyundai owners see their insurance rates go up. ☹️
If you live in an area of high crime and you're worried about this and you can't get your car fixed in time all you have to do is pull your fuel pump relay under the hood of your vehicle and it won't go anywhere
@@eggless3547 I just installed a kill switch on my ECM . My switch is hidden they would have to spend way too much time trying to figure it out and it wouldn't be worth it they'll just move on to the next thing. Everybody tries all these fancy techniques and ways to not get your car stolen when it could be a $5 switch that just bypasses a critical component of your vehicle that will not allow it to start.
@@ericerto8250 The average driver like the couple they interviewed in this video would have no idea how to do that. These folks just need to take it to their Kia/Hyundai dealer and get it fixed NOW.
@@ericerto8250 Indeed. I won't speak of my situation haha! some years back, but I simply installed a SPDT switch and *BOOM* "problem fixed." Criminals. Rookies! *lol*
Lol, I’m not sure if the incorrect reporting is intentional or not. There is no “usb port” behind the start/stop button. They are ripping off the cover of the cylinder key lock and sticking a usb cable in to it to turn the ignition. No actual electronics involved at all. They are not ripping out the button because the ones with the button can’t be stolen. SMH 🤦♂️
This video is incorrect. It's ONLY cars with mechanical key ignition and ALL Kia and Hyundai 2010-2021. Vehicles during that period lacked standard engine immobilisers, the electronic security systems that prevent ignition until they have detected a transponder from the key fob carried by the owner.
I am very confident that this is incorrect reporting, typical of news media. The vehicles affected are the ones that use a blade type ignition key, not the push button start ones. The reason for it is that the keyless ignition needs to have a transponder provide an "okay to start" signal whereas the blade types do not.
@@d_all_in Ummm.... because it doesn't? The USB A connector they use just happens to fit into a busted up lock cylinder... just like how that old junker car from back in the day could be started with using a flat blade screw driver. It is very common on vehicles with no immobilizer system to be able to unplug wires from the ignition switch (not lock cylinder) and "hotwire" it with paperclips to get it started. That's the easy part. The other problem is unlocking the steering column. This is where brute force comes in. With the push button start, you literally need to create a digital signal to input into a module to tell it, "Hey, I have a valid key here." A USB A connector isn't going to do that.
It's public social media platforms where anybody can post anything, theses pages have to be reported in order for the company to take them down but by then ppl have shared and downloaded the videos so it's too late by then
The USB cable is used because usb plug fits on the shaft of the ignition switch that's under the button. Same as a car with a key . Your using the lock cylinder to turn the switch
You dont see any of the push button start ones hit. Only the key ones (at least that ive seen). I always see it on the key operated on the column. Never on the dash. Unless its the same like you described
So basically a usb will work on most any car if u can rip out the key cylinder. I have started my truck with pliers after my keys sunk to the botto Of the lake. Along with my phone, canoe, other valuables.
It’s not the push start cars. The news is confused. It’s the key start cars. The Ian does match the cylinder under the key. There’s nothing to turn in a push start car
They blame social media but what about your media? Lmaoo .. this video didn’t just show mfs how to steal cars as well ? Lol 😂 thanks for info.. you said 2011-2021 right? Preeeshhh!
I bought my car from kia and all they said is I'm sorry. I'm still responsible for car payment and offers no assistance with car rental that you insure beyond 30 day while you wait. It's Been 2 months and I'm already $900+ out of pocket for on month. Not including car and insurance payment.
Local News idiots keeps showing how this is done in detail and show the tiktok link. Now that you have shown more people how to steal the cars show the car owner how to stop them.
At least I have a 6-speed... most teens won't know what to do with that extra pedal 😂 But an easier way to guarantee it can't be stolen is to simply pull a wire or a fuse that only you know where it goes, like a fuel pump fuse or some other essential fuse and it would take a thief hours to figure it out, the car won't start and they will move on.
Good point on preventing the Kia/Hyundai thefts ..unfortunately, they'll have already smashed the window to get into the vehicle before they figure out they can't steal it.
I hope they sock it to these kids that are stealing cars .. they should even charge the parents if they are under age.. this has been an ongoing issue...
@@natashahall-baran967 the report is wrong. The push button kia can't be stolen, it's the key blade vehicle like yours are affected. The usb doesn't do anything special but just turn on ignition on as a key blade would

Lock doors, park in well lit areas, keep valuables out of car, consider steering wheel lock. Most people have at least 90% on this list done. If they’re going to steal your car they’re going to steal it. None of what that dipstick sheriff said is going to prevent an idiot from stealing your car. This kids are doing it for credit, kicks and grins. They don’t care if you have anything valuable in your car.
Also windshield covers (idk the name but the kind you put up to prevent heat) will make it impossible for thieves to look inside your car from the front after that take all valuables with you and lock the doors ☺️
They not gon look in for stuff they just gon look at what typa car it is and go off that. It’s the houses in the burbs that get broken into and robbed not the houses in the hood.
There is no way, no how you will ever find a way around a hackers ingenuity. To do so would mean to forfeit the use of the internet all together! Enjoy the party while it lasts! ✌😀
I'm pretty sure you'll find a left car key in that situation. Your car getting stolen for the sake of people surviving in apocalypse that could happen in 1/1,000,000,000,000 chance is not worth it.
Yeah youre right we should just kill children, thatll sure show them. Deterrance doesnt work. There is barely any cases of someone committing a crime where they say "i thought through this entire thing and considered the consequences of my actions." Nevertheless you advocating the murder of 14 year olds.
Remember when Hondas were the main brand to get stolen. Now you have thousands of kia and hyundai customers on alert and stressed out. Kia and hyundai need to get sued. Class action law suit.
Wao! That is messup.. incredible. That is what the media do, teach the wrong things to this youngsters that don't want to do nothing. Offer them opportunities to learn a profession or a frade.
Yet KIA didnt notify us here in NZ of this vulnerability lol the fact companies like this then go on to essentially excuse and refuse to fix it is the problem... We have worked hard to secure vehicles over the last 20-30 years and this is basically laughing in the faces of consumers. Do better.
The immobilizer system has been optional equipment for a really long time now. I prefer to not have it because the cost to fix when a key is lost or simply fails sucks. I would rather wire up a fuel pump circuit interrupt switch under the dash for about $10.
My brother has his Hyundai stolen last week and the police found it two days later. As for a fix Kia and Hyundai have a kit that fixes the problem but it’s not free it’s about $140.
I just become one of the victims this morning 😢 3 teens trying to thieve my KIA SOUL but luckily my neighbor called the police and they caught all of them. But my car is damaged can’t drive.
And that's why I'm not a Hyundai or Kia fan. The last one I had was the 2017 Kia Soul before I sold it. Great looking car and very roomy, but I wouldn't buy it again now.
According to this report, Hyundai Motor Group fixed this in 2022 model cars. This tells me that older models have a faulty part. Sounds to me like Hyundai Motor Group has a serious recall on their hands, or a law suit or really bad publicity. Hyundai Motor Group needs to resolve this quickly and correctly, not sweep it under the rug and blame social media for their crappy workmanship.

I don't have to worry about it. I'm driving a 96 yeah modern cars has nothing on my Ford Explorer. You should see all the nice modern vehicles broke down on the highway.
