‘Come and eat’: Sri Lanka soup kitchen opens its doors to the hungry

With no fuel or money to buy food, there are not many places to go for hungry Sri Lankans except for a local soup kitchen. Long queues form outside the meal centre, where the hungry eagerly await a free vegetarian meal. An acute fuel shortage in the country has not only forced cars off the road, but people are now unable to cook even if they have food supplies, with cooking gas scarce. A Christian non-profit group has set up soup kitchens at 12 of its churches, serving some 1,500 people daily since June 2022.

countless people in western countries also have and are going to soup kitchens and food banks and that is the case since many decades and it has become even worse due to c19 l.downs and recessions . many sl have said online they cant afford 3 meals a day and yet its the same with very many outside of sl in so called rich countries its terrible . the saying goes it will get worse globally as time goes on with huge food etc shortages . there are many docus about it on yt .

Thank you for uploading these but the question are they reachable to other parts if Sri Lanka because not only in that part people felt hungry nowadays due to inflation of all prime commodities especially rice, if that place can be easily reached out from here in our place we can help them provide more food to the hungry people but I'm very sorry its not, maybe they can reach out to our church leaders for an assistance any kind so that we can also add some goods here in the house,

How have we come to this? Why have we come to this? Many people on the top have more than enough and still can't calm down their greed. There's enough food and resources in the world today and still, so many people are suffering.. A person can only consume so much. You cannot eat more than a certain amount. You cannot wear more than a certain amount. Then why do people in power need to do terrible things just to gain more and more for themselves... After thousands and thousands of years, we as a civilization have still not learned how to coexist peacefully. It's painful. It's a shame.

overpopulation. Climate Change is the result of overpopulation and everyone wanting and needing resources. Unless we resolve the overpopulation issue, we cannot resolve hunger and climate change. Ressources are limited here, no matter if you believe it or not, unless we fly to another planet.

What is happening to our world?? My heart breaks for Everyone suffering around this globe. Especially since most of it is needless suffering. If only humanity was more important then $.... I live in Canada, and see Working Canadians struggling to put food on the table. Put a roof over their heads... We are near the point of no return if things don't change. Wake up people!

exactly and its the same in europe . i think from s. lankans talk and comments many dont realise that people in western countries are also struggling like crazy because western countries are supposed to be rich which they are but so many citizens are not . i also wrote that w.countries have soup kitchens / foodbanks since decades and it has become more and more places like it plenty of docus on yt about it . the world has and is going back wards . all the modern technology and yet people are in great difficulties .
