He’s saying the shelf that breaks off is already floating in the water. Like ice in a glass, it will not raise the water level when melted. The concern is the glacier behind it that is land banked that will slide into the sea after this “barrier shelf” is gone. THAT is what could raise sea level.

Some one showed me a photo taken by his father in 1950 of a glacier a couple hundred yards behind the family cabin. The next one he took a couple years ago shows the same cabin where the glacier was is now 25 and 30 foot trees, the glacier can barely be seen in the far distance miles away!

Yeah. Ocean temps here where I live have gone up every year for the last 10 or 12 years here where I live. Summer peak temps used to be around 102 Fahrenheit, 30 years ago. Peak last summer was around 118 for a couple days. They say global temps may rise 1 degree Celsius in the next 50 years. 1 degree doesn't sound like much to the average American. They aren't used to Celsius. But if you told them that it could be 138 degrees in the Summer where you live, in 25 years, they wouldn't believe it.

I wonder about the landmass and how it will rise; evenly or unevenly. Will the land rise 1 inch for every 10 inches of sea level rise? The reverse? It's also a misfortune that MSM continuously miss out one very important fact. Both the Thwaites and Pine glaciers are being melted from below by geothermal currents from an active volcanic rift system.

Look up the difference between shelved water and non shelved water ..thesepeople commenting don't know when to yeild to the experts.. which they are not

Instead of the ice cube placed in an empty glass then filled with water scenario, envision a bathtub with a block of ice which stands two feet above the rim of the tub. Filling the tub with water to one foot under the rim of the tub you will see that the water level does not rise with the block of ice in it, now envision a significant portion of the ice block "breaking off" from its top to mid section and falling into the tub, you will see a significant and immediate rise of water level. An ice shelf is not an ice sheet, an iceberg, nor glacier. It is in fact that top portion still attached to the ice block in the tub, the "break off" of an ice shelf is what causes such a dramatic rise in sea level, most particularly when the "break off" is the size of a city.

Cuz it is expensive

Well, the cost is a big factor, but I think the fossil fuel industry executives and greedy mega wealthy power brokers wants to extract every penny they can in profits before they allow the politians they control to make changes. And then, of course those same people will make sure they make huge profits on water. But a bigger issue is the shear volume of water in a say, 3' rise in sea level. It's a huge number!! Imagine trying to pump down the world sea level by even one inch! Simply not a viable option in terms of cost. Cheaper to build dams on the rivers east of the Mississippi River that flood the east coast every year and pump fresh water to arid states just like the petroleum industry dose oil. Know technology and can be done for profit. Simple. Also solves flooding problems and saves lots of $ that can be then used to off-set the costs of the new fresh water distribution system. Also would create 10's of thousands of jobs across the country. And more!

You're obviously not a farmer who pays for power to pump lots of water, or you would know its impractical.

Considering the billions saved from flood damages, the hydroelectric potential from dams, and solar power generation, it just might be practical. Needs further study.
