Newly obtained body-worn camera footage gives an inside look at lifesaving measures taken to keep a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office K-9 alive. The service dog was hit in a shootout between suspects and police.
Police animals are officers too. The fact they just started shooting with him so close to the car is dealing wild. Whoever shot him cop or not should be charged with attempted murder on an officer. I mean if a civilian shot the dog they would’ve got charged with attempted murder on an officer
@@YomamaYodaddyYobjtchassGranny yeah i kinda agree like why would they send the dog into the vehicle and then start shooting like that was the dumbest thing ever and watching the camera footage there is no telling whether the police hit him or the suspects hit him
@@zerodarkthirty7171 this is true but officers always have to yell “watch crossfire” and they do so in multiple body cam footage in different departments so it just feels like a lack of communication on their end
This is how most officers and k9s work, they also most of the time to to live with their handlers once retired whether that's by aging out of work or by medical retirement.

I nearly cried when I heard that he is now in a forever home with his handler. There is no better place for him to retire than in the home of the man who has been with him through everything and understands what he needs. I bet he still goes to the station and spends the day with everyone still.
K9 and their handlers live like any other owner/pet. The dogs live at home, along with the handler's family. The K9, while at home, behaves like any other dog; playing with the kids, sleeping, eating, drinking out of the toilet... When it's time to go to work, they get excited, because "work" to them is "play time". When they're doing the job, they're not being vicious, they're having fun. When they're at home, they're at home, and are the family pet.

you don’t shoot into a vehicle and send in the dog. you do one not both. wtf low iq moment. cop even said an officer hit the dog not the suspect. you’d think they’d be more careful especially when they say they consider their dogs as one of them. sad and disappointing
This is obviously true, but I suspect that what happened is they sent the dog first and then one of the suspects started firing, prompting the officers to return fire. Unfortunately, the dog was in the crossfire at that point, but no officer is going to refrain from shooting back when a suspect is shooting toward them. In hindsight, not deploying the dog would have been better, but no one knew that was going to happen.
Not when they shot knowing he was right in front of the suspect, and cmon they don't think they would have shot him they shoot multiple times not knowing if there actually hitting the suspect many times cross fire hits there own
@@DanielHernandez-cm3om Agreed. I have NEVER like the fact these dogs are used like that. These dogs jump in cars and the cops know the dogs can get stabbed or shot. These cops don't care, they see them as "tools" and that's how canines are looked by many police. It's sad
@Ghost Detective And in many states dogs are considered property and not part of your family, there not a materialistic object there also alive like us, it's sad animals don't get the same respect as humans since we are all living beings but if they could talk they would be a different change on how we see them

He was in so much pain. His mouth was wide open and he was breathing fast and hard. He was scared and going into shock from the blood loss. The amount of patience and comfort the dog had for the officers helping him is outstanding. I know most dogs would be crying in pain and likely trying to deter from any sort of help thinking it is worsening condition. This pupper just let the officers go to work with no complaints or resistance
I believe that to be the case because they are trained extensively, and also know that their people care for them. He knew he was hurt, and watched all the other officers working franticly around him. So he must have known they were trying to save him.
I don’t know why, but every time this video pops up on my feed I watch it. Just to see the care and compassion from his handler ❤️ but damn it makes me so upset it was friendly fire. I hope this good boy is getting lots love and living a good retired life.

Once when I was little, we were learning fire safety and someone said if you’re house was burning down you should get out and leave your pets inside because humans can’t be replaced but pets can. I was too stupid and young to think anything of it at the time. But now it makes me angry. Every pet should be treated with as much respect and care as this doggy. Yeah that's a tough one. From the clip it looks as though the suspect fired a round and then the officers not knowing who the suspect was shooting at opened up. It happens when you're under extreme stress, muscle memory kicks in. However as a firearms instructor for my department, we preach ALWAYS KNOW YOUR BACKGROUND and what's beyond. It didn't seem in this case they heeded that basic firearms safety rule.
I could barely watch this, let alone click on it. Seeing a person in pain is heartbreaking, but an animal in pain tears me up. Cats, dogs, horses, it doesn't matter what animal. Maybe because they can't tell us the pain they're in. I'm so glad he was saved and doing so well.
That is no injured Service Dog-He is an Officer of the Law, a fellow Service Man, sent into the battlefield that crime, and vice have fostered in inner cities, and spreading. Thank you all, and your Families, from the bottom of my heart.
I was gonna say almost exactly the same thing. It isn't K9 Huck as far as I'm concerned; it's OFFICER Huck. Or for a full title, Officer Huck, K9. The K9 is a secondary distinction. He's an officer first, a K9 second. Although, I guess now he's more Retired Officer Huck, K9. Though, for whatever reason, I'm more okay with the "Retired K9, Officer Huck" honorific when he's retired. Because he's transitioned from an active duty officer of the law to, well, the job of simply being the best pet dog possible with a valiant history under his belt (or, in this case, his collar, I suppose). He's gone from protecting and serving the public to protecting and serving his family. And hopefully he gets free vet care for the entire course of his natural life. Like, the absolute best of the best vet care, he ought to still have access to medevacs and emergency vets at zero cost to the now owner as a pension plan of sorts for his work on the force. I hope Officer K9s get that benefit, because they absolutely should
It’s crazy about what animals do for humans! Unbelievable, and I pay respect to those people who stood by him at the dog’s weakest point and comforted him. That just shows how they care for him and how society can improve. Glad he’s okay!
I watch so much true crime, body cam footage, murder investigation, etc... I see what horrible things people have done to other people, and it does make me sad and angry but only briefly. But animals involved never fail to make me bawl. I'm so glad he's okay. You can tell his human partner shares such a special bond with him.

It honestly made me tear up. Poor doggy... he was just helping out his beloved humans and next thing he knows he's wracked with pain. But holy crap were the officers awesome about taking care of him after. A medevac for a K9 officer is absolutely awesome (not awesome he needed the medevac, but rather it's awesome that when he unfortunately needed the medevac, there was no hesitation, they just called the helicopter since they're rescuing a fellow officer that's been downed)
