The fact that this woman is not on disability but depending on her daughter’s money makes me wonder how real the sickness is 🤔🤔
@GoodnightJLH
@GoodnightJLH 4 года назад
To get on disability, the primary doctor must be proactive in getting a diagnosis and maximizing function with treatment. Dr Phil reads her medical record and the PCP Nurse Practitioner says that this patient might have EDS because she fulfills some of the criteria. Okay... So why not get her diagnosed? She likely has a combination of physical and mental illness. But she can’t either get better or get on disability unless she has a proactive doctor.
@zari2662
@zari2662 4 года назад
To be fair even when you have "real" sicknesses is difficult to get approved for disability. You could have an arm hanging off and be imobile and it would still take years to get approved 🤷🏽‍♀️

J. Holan instead of blaming the medical community for not diagnosing this person with a disease and starting the transition to full medical disability should be your first indication that she doesn’t have a disease that qualifies her for medical disability. She is morbidly obese and a parasitic parent who is ruining her daughters life. She probably has depression , main issue is narcissism and laziness.
@reneegardner2286

Exactly. I have mental health issues, and I'm on Disability for them. But my mother still doesn't understand why it hurts me that she never calls me to see how I'm doing. She says "when do you ever call to check up on me?" I shouldn't have to worry about her when I'm the one on Disability. Narcissistic mothers are the worst. They always feel entitled to play the victim. Children of narcissistic parents are the ones who need help. Not the other way around. If she got divorced 8 years ago why should her daughter support her, and cook for her, and basically be her slave? She chose to be a parent. Now she's manipulating her into being her caretaker. So sad.

Exactly. I have a chronic illness and do my absolute best to do everything I’m able to do. There are days that I have to lay low and rest up, but it’s so rare for someone to be in their 50s and completely not able (or willing! Which is way worse!) to take care of themselves. I’ve certainly never met a single chronically ill person who deliberately won’t do anything for themselves.

This is ridiculous. First of all, there should be an official diagnosis from a doctor. Go get blood tests, etc. Second, if the mum is that incapable of caring for herself, why can’t she get a home health aid? It’s disgusting how she is manipulating and abusing her daughter. I have a severe illness that requires assistance from my parents, but I would never put them through this!

@GoodnightJLH
@GoodnightJLH 4 года назад
There are 13 types of EDS currently recognized. For 12 of them, there are DNA tests. One of the types is diagnosed clinically. Shame on her Nurse Practitioner! A good clinician does what is necessary. Don’t just mention that the patient might have something! Figure out what is wrong physically and what is wrong mentally with your patient! An EDS specialist is a Geneticist. Typical waiting lists to get in are more than 2 years. There are few Geneticists in the USA. It’s common that a patient in need of a Geneticist simply cannot see one in the USA because their health insurance won’t cover it. And EDS workup costs several thousand dollars.

@GoodnightJLH
@GoodnightJLH 4 года назад
TheLicktySplitz She has a Nurse Practitioner who says “maybe” she has Ehlers-Danlos and that she meets several criteria. Okay... So why doesn’t that NP figure out what is wrong and how to maximize this woman’s functional level? Does she have EDS? Which type? Does she have associated POTS and MCAS that keep her in bed for days? Maybe this issue is mostly mental. Likely it’s a combination of physical pain issues and the mental depression that often accompanies such situations. Maybe she has an autoimmune disorder. Maybe she has a personality disorder. To get disability, her PCP needs to give her a diagnosis and an affidavit of disability. Instead, her PCP speculates on what she might have but does nothing to help her. Sad. I hope she gets the help she needs but I’m concerned because Dr Phil has no medical training. It usually takes several years for people like her to get on disability. I went through this process with a friend and it was horrible. My friend had a Masters in Healthcare administration but she went without income for 7 years until she finally got on disability. She had to hire an attorney and had to pay out of pocket for medical and psychiatric evaluations that her HMO wouldn’t cover. The disability process in the USA is horrible. And don’t even get me started on the “Ticket to Work” program to get off disability. That’s a total cluster f*** too.

The mom has to do some work not her daughter and it’s nice she’s doing it for her since the mom “cant” but the poor girl is tired and the mother drains her energy by making her serve her!

I really love the fact that everyone sees that "mother" Is when you give birth to someone and take as if the children owe you something (the quotes around that word say it all. Nearly every post I read had written it - "mother"- ) being a mother is something entirely different. At least this young lady is moving forward knowing how NOT to be vs following her moms example. For everybody in a manipulative parent child situation I ask you please talk to friends, find someone you can trust and know that just because they gave birth to you doesn't mean they can use you however they want. The days really turn to years and you only give up a shot at your own happiness. What else is super sad, those manipulating parents don't even give a hoot! All the best to everybody, take care and be safe.

My mother has cirrhosis of the liver, thyroid problems, arthritis, diabetes and other illnesses , on top of that she just had surgery on her elbow so she can only use one arm and she still is such a strong woman that she wants to clean and do stuff all the time although I tell her she shouldn’t because she is sick, she absolutely hates sitting on the couch for long periods of time . I feel deeply for Cheyenne no one deserves that , you can tell her heart is so kind because she loves her mother and obviously went out her way to help her. GOD BLESS

This in incrediblyyyy frustrating on so many levels. Many many many people with EDS live full lives, even fully active lives though typically things like running and gymnastics are a terrible idea. Usually, the issues arise because when you injure yourself, your body doesn't heal well. You're extra stretchy and when your cells stretch they can't contract as they should. There are always signs of it in a person's past. There is no such thing as "late-onset EDS." For example, knee replacements at 16 are not uncommon. Also, the first physical test for EDS is so easy to administer. You test flexibility, skin quality, look at the joints to see if they are overextended... I can pick people out of crowds and say "they probably have it." The first thing a nurse practitioner would do after the physical assessment which literally takes three minutes is to give her a referral. Her doctor would probably confirm the suspicion and move on to family history. Even if her family members weren't diagnosed with EDS there would be a history of heart issues, aneurysms, and highly complicated births coupled with difficult recoveries. It is not the same as arthritis.
