You get a recall notice, it's on you. But parts shortages make it the car maker's fault if they don't remove dangerous components.

Paperwork shows they would notify her when parts came in so this damage is on dodge. Every 6 mo. for years G.M. reminds me of recall on key switch of my rusty, trusty, 2005 Impala. Key switch will only leave me stranded, not kill me like this dodge. SMH.

I've got Takata airbags in my 2007 Toyota Corolla. The passenger side airbag was recalled for the issue with moisture seeping in over time and causing them to explode violently when deployed. I got that side replaced during the recall. But the driver's side was never recalled... I don't believe for a second that the almost 20 year old Takata airbag on the driver side hasn't suffered the same moisture problem this company is known for. I'm quite sure mine will explode if I ever get in a collision. And this car is my daily driver... They didn't issue a recall probably for the same reason outlined by Ed Norton during the conversation with the single-serving friend on the airplane in the movie Fight Club. The issue forms over time and depends on the variables like humidity and temperature the car was in during that time. There's a good chance mine sends metal shrapnel into my head when deployed. Will anyone disable it for me? Probably not. This incident here adds a whole new dimension to this fear. I've wondered about this happening, too. Driving along singing a song, and the thing goes off. Then they blame me for driving such an old car.

@buddys_dad

Now hold on. You know nothing of which you speak. Before I retired from a different manufacturer, I managed the outbound calling program for a different airbag program. Yes, parts are usually not available when the recall is announced, but so many customers often do not take the recall seriously and when told to stay in touch with their dealer, they are not responsible enough to do that. And yes, letters advising parts are available are sent to the most current address based on the third-party vendor who manages the most recent mailing address for ALL US vehicle owners. This customer admits the initial recall letter was received, so they also received the second letter (and third and fourth and…). The government (NHTSA) requires the manufacturer to reach out to the customer on all safety recalls until the vehicle is repaired. This owner’s story is full of holes.

This truly is penny wise and pound foolish on Stellantis, the multi-national that owns Chrysler, which manufactures Ram trucks. @joshriver75
@joshriver75 6 дней назад
The recall only involved the inflator. The potential for what we see here possibly killing/seriously injuring in the event of an accident. In this case it seems the spontaneous deployment is likely due to a separate issue that would need further investigation imo. This could happen to an airbag that didn't have an inflator failure I would definitely want to know why! Also important to know that restraint defects in manufacturing is lifetime warranty on all make models in the US. They need a attorney and more media attention!

Thank you WFTV. If it weren't for you this couple would have gotten nothing. It's no surprise that Stellates, which is just a conglomerate for the worst car companies known on earth wouldn't try to dodge this claim. I do like some of their vehicles, but ONLY lease these vehicles as they're crap after warranty.

People should know that SUVs and Trucks are Exempt from any of the crash tests that they put your average car through. (Oh yeah it has to be mentioned because people can't put 2 and 2 together 🙄) That kind of damage should never happen from any airbag going off proper position/place.

That may be why they call themselves Dodge. Their vehicles may spontaneously start chucking their components at their drivers that must be Dodged to avoid injury or worse.

A discount? F that. Don't buy another thing from that dealer in that state because you know that they don't have your back! They'll just keep you in business with them so they can make money off your misery.

Airbags inflate via a chemical reaction that creates a literal explosion to quickly inflate the bags. However when it is pressurized it becomes a bomb like in this case this is much mich more common than you think
