Yes, I love that Jennifer said that she gave Deb a "secret" that only she held to herself. Which was that Deb was always pulled to Dexter in a way that showed her being in love with him. So that is how she portrayed her.. She was glad or felt vindicated that Deb was written to fall in love with Dexter...

It wasn't lousy at all imo. I think Hannah was Dexter's best relationship in the show. Also by "playing it safe" I hope you mean not messing up the single best plutonic relationship of the show: Dex and Deb. Seriously, they grew up as siblings. I wouldn't want to be romantically involved with my step sister if I had one, that's weird af. Glad the show didn't take that direction.

Tbh is was weird but I really would've liked this to go somewhere rather than Dexter falls for Hannah, I mean I really didn't like Hannah and she never should've came back in Season 8, Ultimately he doesn't even go with Hannah and the only one he could protect was Deb and she has been there his whole life the only person that knows exactly for what he is, yeah Hannah knew but she just accepted it, with Deb you see her accepting it because she loves Dexter and that's why she shot LaQuerta, because she fell for Dexter

Dexter also CAN'T be with Hannah. I hate the way he is with her. He becomes all lovey-dovey with her and doesn't pay attention to any of his surroundings. He becomes blinded by love and that changes who he is. When he is with her he isn't Dexter anymore. He is like a lovesick puppy following her everywhere and doing everything for her. This is the notorious serial killer from the past seasons? When I rematch old episode I feel like I am watching 2 different shows. No way I am watching the same.

Writers wanted that Dexter could think that he could have normal life in S8 for that they introduced Hannah's character in S7 but chemistry between them seemed forced without proper backstory. They should have brought lumen's character back because they took entire season on both of them. And their chemistry felt real.

Season one of Dexter, Dexter says "I don't have feeling about anything, but if I could have feelings at all, I'd have them for Deb." Look Dexter's love life is all fucked up but this makes sense throughout the series, even if it's weird it's what the writers should've done. They went with the whole Hannah McKay shit, because they were afraid of people being weird out, yes people would be, but remember that this Show is about a serial killer who kills other serial killers, I mean it did test the limits with just the fucking pilot episode, it was a show that really tested our moral compass. I mean he always loved Deb he just didn't know how to act on his feelings, because he convinces himself that he doesn't have feelings, really though he does, even from the start.

Because, aside from his son, Deb was his only family who knew the real Dexter and still accepted him. So he couldn't turn his back on his sister who was dying in the hospital. He abandoned his son and Hannah because he blamed himself and felt responsible for what happened to Deb, so he didn't want the same thing to happen to Hannah or his son

Joe Lazarus Well everyone had there own take, and yes your logic is true, but I mean you can say the same for Deb and Dexter's love affair, no matter how weird it is, it was there. I know the writers intended to have Deb and Dexter Romance, but didn't do it and made the character Hannah Mckay. So yes, The reason he left Hannah and his son was because he felt guilty, but also You can easily argue he was in love with Deb.

Solar Well my take is no different from what the writer had in mind for Dexter. Dexter wasn't in love with Deb. He loved her because that was his sister who was very close to him. As for Deb's feelings for Dexter, he was never on board with that.."She's not in love with me, that's insane" "What am I supposed to do, I can't feel what she wants me to feel" In the book, i'm sure it was a different story but in the tv show, Dexter never reciprocated or encouraged those romantic feelings. Dexter just felt that his son would be safer away from him.

It always baffles me how in a show about a serial killer who does all sorts of questionable things even kill innocent people to save his ass, THIS story twist is where the audience drew the line 💀 I wish the show runner and writers never chickened out and saw the storyline to the end instead of dropping it. For starters Hanna wouldn’t have existed and just with that the final two seasons would have been miles better.

That relationship was weird too, but the difference with Barry’s relationship and why people didn’t react as much is because their relationship wasn’t treated as a sibling/brother-sister relationship. Since the beginning of the season we knew Barry had a crush on Iris and she was the love interest. With Dexter and Debra, since the beginning and most of the show their relationship was treated as a sibling relationship. They had a brother and sister dynamic. So when the writers just put this stuff about Debra being attracted to Dexter it’s just gross.

@@Lauki60 sorry so long in my response during the end of the prior season and beginning of this season thw writers told showtime where they wanted to Ultimately go with Debra and dexter much like the book Debra she would start helping Dexter when he hunted serial killers, and would form a deeper more complex bond with him, the exec thought it was one too many steps overboard ( I laugh because all the things we had seen up till now on the series and they thought a step brother and sister hooking up was too far) ... and so we got what we got the final season was a dumpster fire because showtime was so in love with Hannah (which her story went absolutely no where) over Debra who was literally the rock of the show, when the original show runners left it was over

@@jamillajohnson6108 yes and now we have a chance to see it happen, because right now in development is a new series in addition to the Dexter prequel series where Micheal C Hall and Debra are returning I think the writers realize the the mistake they made with Dexter New Blood and and according to the show runner they are treating “Dexter New Blood” as a What if storyline so the new show with Dexter and Debra returning will probably pick up after season 4 of the original series and they will retcon what they ultimately did in the final season

I'm not trying to see him and Brian, that was not interesting or entertaining for me at all... I want to see Deb as Dexter's crazy dark passenger... Like the one telling him "Yes, pick that one" I want to see Dexter full on in "Dexter killer mode" not the masked Dexter or the sober Dexter... But the Dexter that is in survival mode and just running over folks with Deb at his side... Still keeping within his code, whatever that looks like now... But I'm ready for action

No, it’s disgusting. He’s her older brother adopted but still her brother. He held her as a baby. They were brother and sister for years and she finds attraction to him is disturbing.

@Slice2099 it is your opinion, everyone has their own, i made a post about it on the dexter subredit and there people have mix opinions, some said that they didn't like and was too weird for them, and some said it made sense why deb would love him that way and liked it. I can't send the link to the post, but then again if they were not going to do anything with this story line they should have kept it to themselves, after all it was either dexter alone, or dexter with deb...and the worst which is dexter with a rushed storyline with hannah, seems like no one likes hannah (obviously there are people that like her) but her storyline didn't made sense at all, with the entirety of S8, if it wasn't fot hannah the ending would have probably been better. Love this show anyway❤️

all you people seven years now are seeing dexter killing people and you feel weird about Debs feelings??? Give me a break! And you should know that they didnt grow up like brother and sister.. He was never close to her as "brother", .and that with the rest of his behavior as a child made Debra to see him as her hero.. Because he was something different, there was a mystery about him, he was around her but he was never "reachable".. I understand her feelings, but she is too good for him!!

the deb/dex love arc is a dead end...Dexter never reciprocated to Deb's romantic feelings and he was pretty much put off by it.

they should have gone down this route. how do you continue to up the ante with respect to a show about a vigilante serial killer especially with how season 4 ended. we'll never know. but in an alternate universe, this twisted love story was explored :)
