Hi David. It was great to finally meet you. Saturday was fantastic. I’m still buzzing from the weekend. Seeing all those VCers in person was a bit like being in a room with a bunch of celebrities 😂. Mazzy did a good job recording parts of the day. I thoroughly enjoyed his video. Cheers. John
Never seen or heard that Sarah Vaughan before, but the sound makes sense being on Mainstream. I have heard that “Sunshine of Your Love” by Ella before. It is fantastic! Cool topic, John. Enjoyed ✌🏻
Hi Jon. Sarah Vaughan’s version of Inner City Blues was a pleasant surprise. I found the album in a £1 bin and picked it up because it was on Mainstream. The rest of the record is pretty average but that track is a winner 🏆
Hi John great feature love your choices 👍if you do a part two have a listen to Ella Fitzgerald singing the Temptations classic “Get Ready” it’s awesome 🤩
Lovely video to chill out to John & reflect and recover from Saturday's high octane activities..and of course consider my pending court case with the Mercur Hotel chain in an incident that experts have already labelled ''Breakfastgate' 😂 I think that Nancy Wilson track is scattered across about 50 of my soul comps. That Sara Vaughan is a killer
Not heard that Nancy Wilson track before but it’s definitely a banger. I love Selena Jones’ version of Am I The Same Girl. Not come across that album yet but I’m grabbing it if I do. Cheers John !
Following on from your tour of London record shops with Mazzy can you please tell me your top 3 recommended Soul record stores in London. Then I can visit them when I come down to the deep south next.
Hi John, Great selection... you turned it out quickly! Selena jones is a bit of a mystery... so much forgettable stuff with the occasional funky banger! Cheers
@@melomano4145 Hi Laurence. I already had the needle drops recorded so just needed to shout at my iPhone for 10 minutes to complete the video 😀. Great meeting you in Saturday. I’m still buzzing from all the geeky record chat. Cheers!
@@spectrum_archives Hi Fred. The ‘Just Family’ album is a bit patchy in places - I can do without the Elton cover - but there’s some lovely stuff in there. Great band too. Cheers!
@@nigelcampag1290 Hi Nigel. The Sarah Vaughan version of ‘Inner City Blues’ is as funky as. Love it. Gonna have a stab at doing a response to Laurence’s ‘Easy Listening Gies Soul’ at some point. Cheers. John
@@6inchpianist Yep, it's superb. Yes, I commented on that video as well. John Schroeder and Keith Mansfield were a couple of suggestions I made. Regards Nige
Fine video, man! I love Sarah Vaughan!but I like het earlier stuff,Like "Moonlight in Vermont" A song came to mind of a jazz singer doing soul ..or more pop in this case.. Lena Horne... Recorded A cover of "Maybe I'm Amazed,The McCartney tune..and it's awesome.
Yup, those are some top tunes. I've always liked Ella's Sunshine of your Love. Far rather listen to that than the original. Sarah Vaughn's Inner City Blues is rather special. I've got a great instrumental version on an album which is otherwise mostly Bacharach and show tunes...But both the life of me I can't remember who it was done by. I had so many conversations on Saturday which basically went, "There's a great record by...Er...Er...Um...You know...Whatisname...Er...I can't remember..."
