‘Macho Fern’ Nephrolepis biserrata Spotlight: Care Guide & Tips 

Macho fern might be one of my favorites, I love the bigger leaves and mine isn’t as finnicky about humidity as the Boston fern! Mine hasn’t grown that fast unfortunately but wow yours looks so gorgeous and I love that yours is in a hanging planter that is such a great idea to see the shapes of the fronds! I love the name frizzle sizzle for the new leaves that come 😂😂

My daughter bought a Boston Fern and almost killed it. I cut it totally down and rehabbed it. It’s beautiful, although not a favorite of mine. It’s starting to take over my bedroom 😂 I think I would like a Macho Fern better. I’ll send you a picture of Boston.

Mr Macho certainly enjoys the care you give him. He’s looking great! I laughed at “fizzle sizzle” and thought you just made up the words to describe the look of a baby frond. But no, a plant in its own right. And one now on my wish list. What a unique little plant.

What a beautiful plant you have! I have the Boston fern in DIY self watering pot and it's doing great. Repotted it once and added vermuculite in the general potting mix just to prevent soil from compacting, but also to retain moisutre better. So far so good!

I live in the U.S. South (southern Arkansas) and every year grow a Macho Fern in a large container under a porch by the front door. I generally get a new plant yearly (unfortunately don't have the space indoors to properly over-winter one) and will obtain and pot by mid-April. They love the location and generally by June are getting pretty massive. and by the end of summer they're gargantuan! We have heat and humidity where I live, and the location has excellent airflow. I generally douse them with water every couple of days or so, depending on temperature and size of plant. I've had the Boston and Kimberly ferns before and have to say. I find them rather ho-hum after growing Macho ferns, which produce beautiful specimen plants when their cultural needs are met.

I really enjoyed your very thorough video ! To answer your question, ferns dont flower. They produce spores on adult fronds which grow very slowly into new ferns when they get in contact with moist soil. My macho fern took repotting very well, but one time i had to split it because it became too large and it took months to recover but all is good now and i have two plants.

Your fern looks great! I've never owned one of these type of ferns. I have concerns of owning one in my apartment. This plant needs a type of care that I won't be able to give it properly, mainly the light. I am trying to find a way to get all of my plants that are hanging in my kitchen and living room away from my window. I want my view back. Wish me luck b/c I will be rearranging both spaces along with my bedroom (which gets the best light) and there will be a lot of artificial light being used.

What a great video. I have two Macho Ferns, both of which I have added a bit of slow release fertiliser to. I saw you mention Seasol, can this also be added today after I added the slow release fertiliser?

I have a huge Boston fern .But when i bring it in the house for the winter .it dies
